England will look back at a few key moments throughout the day.

Tom Latham, on 49, and Ross Taylor, on 25, were both given out before successfully reviewing. The Taylor decision caused debate with umpire Bruce Oxenford adamant he saw a mark on HotSpot but none of the TMS commentators were convinced while Stuart Broad was fuming.

England were also the architects of their own downfall as Ben Stokes dropped Latham on 66. Stokes was diving slightly to his left, but it was a catch you'd expect him to take and like in the first Test, when BJ Watling went on to make a double century, Latham punished Stokes by moving to his 11th Test century.

  4. Bowling figurespublished at 04:27 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2019

Here are the bowling figures from the 54.3 overs so far. Good returns from Chris Woakes while Sam Curran struggled with his line today.

Stuart Broad: 1-33 from 14 overs

Jofra Archer: 0-31 from 13.3 overs

Chris Woakes: 2-41 from 14 overs

Sam Curran: 0-38 from nine overs

Joe Root: 0-11 from two overs

Ben Stokes: 0-14 from two overs

So, New Zealand close on 173-3 with Tom Latham unbeaten on 101 and Henry Nicholls on five.

After winning the toss and electing to field first, Joe Root will be disappointed England haven't made more inroads during the 54.3 overs that were possible today, I imagine.

The TV coverage has literally just shown the umpires Handunnettige Dharmasena and Paul Wilson walk out to the middle, have a 20-second conversation at most with the head groundsman and then walk back off.

    Shortest inspection in history?

  7. Play abandoned for the daypublished at 04:18 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2019
    Breaking

As we expected, the umpires have called stumps for the day.

That means we'll start at 21:30 GMT for the rest of the Test in an attempt to recover the overs lost today.

  8. Inspection at 04:15 GMTpublished at 04:14 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2019

This could be to call stumps for the day.

  9. Postpublished at 04:11 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2019

Here's the latest on Ben Stokes' fitness while we wait for news from Seddon Park.

The all-rounder has only bowled two overs so far in the innings and was clearly in pain with his left knee during that short spell.

The rain is much lighter now in Hamilton with some brighter sky in the distance. But the covers are still on. It is touch and go if we’ll get more play tonight.

There are huge puddles on the covers now and it's still coming down.

I'd be very surprised if we saw any more play today. That's likely to mean we'll start at the earlier time of 21:30 GMT for the rest of the Test too.

Play has got under way, after a brief delay, in Adelaide. David Warner and Joe Burns are in the middle for Australia as they look to wrap a 2-0 series win against Pakistan.

Having said that, I can't see any groundsmen on the outfield mopping up at the moment, which if the umpires were inspecting in 25 minutes you think they would be.

It's quite possible the inspection is to call stumps for the day.
