  1. 'A few unknowns'published at 21:40 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2019

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson: "We'd have had a bowl as well. A few unknowns, I guess. It's not what you often see at Hamilton.

"It's important you go out and try and implement your plans as well as you can.

"Matt Henry comes in for Trent - he'll come in and take the new ball. He's been around the group for the long time. It's an exciting opportunity for him."

It's Matt Henry who takes the final bowling spot for New Zealand.

He'll share the new ball with Tim Southee.

  3. 'Great opportunity to explore something different'published at 21:38 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2019

England captain Joe Root: "It's always nice to see someone come in and make their debut. We're trying to find ways of taking 20 wickets in these conditions.

"We feel this is a great opportunity on a surface like this to explore something different.

"It's pretty simple what we need to improve on. It's been about making sure we're clear on that. its' about going and playing and putting our heart and soul into things."

Mark Butcher, incidentally, has just described the decision not to play a spinner as "a nonsense."

    Good word.

So, no Jos Buttler or Jack Leach for England.

I mean, the main issue is that with no Jack Leach, England have got rid of half of their batting.

It's probably a good decision. The grass on the pitch will help it carry through, but I don't expect much lateral movement. The scores tend to generally start quite low and then improve in New Zealand. I expect a good and tough day's Test cricket.

  7. England win toss & bowlpublished at 21:34 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2019
    Breaking

It's Joe Root who calls correctly - and England will have a bowl first.

Root says there's quite a lot of "live grass" that he likes the look of.

On that note, let's get on with the toss.

Quite a lot of green still on that pitch...

Joe Denly handed Zak Crawley his cap a little earlier today.

This, incidentally, will be the sixth time Ollie Pope has kept wicket in a first-class match.

There's changes, changes and more changes for both sides today.

Ollie Pope will be keeping wicket after Jos Buttler crocked his back in the gym. Zak Crawley will make his debut and, potentially, Chris Woakes will replace Jack Leach.

There's no Trent Boult or Big Colin DG for New Zealand. Daryl Mitchell comes in on his home ground and we're waiting to find out if Lockie Ferguson will make his Test debut, or Matt Henry will play instead.
