Rain stops playpublished at 03:03 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2019

Three balls into the evening session and we're going off for rain.

It doesn't look too bad at the moment but the groundstaff seem in a bit of a hurry as if they know something is coming.

The fans are starting to scatter and the groundstaff are hovering on the side of the outfield.

  3. NZ 173-3published at 54.1 overs

Almost a wicket first up as Archer gets one to keep slightly low and it comes off the bottom of Tom Latham's bat, into the ground, and just past off stump.

There are some very, very dark clouds over Seddon Park at the moment.

Jofra Archer will get us going after tea.

Having won the toss and chosen to field, England really need to win this session and win it well.

You can't help but feel they need at least three more wickets to justify it, but they will be looking to pick up four or five this session to get themselves on top.

More from David White on TMS: "It's an isolated incident. We're a very small country but we're multi-cultural - both the values of NZC and the values of New Zealand are.

"I heard about it a little later on [that day] and we were very disappointed. We took immediate steps to express our disappointment and concern and we've taken action after that.

"It was a great Test - first game at Mount Maunganui, beautiful weather - and it was disappointing that we weren't talking about the players. It put a little bit of a dampener on it [the win].

  10. NZC to pass information to police on Archer racism incidentpublished at 02:53 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2019

    BBC Test Match Special

David White, chief executive of Cricket New Zealand, on the Jofra Archer racism incident in the first Test: "We've made significant inquiries. We've had some people come forward with information.

"We're compiling that and we'll be forwarding it to the police. It's up to the police. We've gathered all the information we can and we'll be forwarding it to them.

"I had a word to Jofra, just to apologise to him on the behalf of NZC. We're very disappointed that one of our visitors was subjected to that.

"It wasn't appropriate. He's a nice young guy and he was appreciative of the conversation."

There are still 36 overs scheduled in the day but I'd be surprised if we got through them all.

Firstly, because England bowl pretty slowly so will only get 32 overs maximum in during that time with no frontline spinner, I'd have thought.

Secondly, the clouds are gathering over Seddon Park and we look set to get a couple of showers so we're likely to get some interruptions in this session.

    Forecast in Hamilton, New Zealand.

    Thanks Matt.

Another incredibly frustrating session for England. They only took one wicket in 26 overs and conceded 87 runs at 3.34 an over so it was the double whammy of not taking wickets but also failing to build pressure.

Tom Latham's century came from 159 balls with 15 fours in 237 minutes.

Latham, with 11, is just one behind John Wright for the most centuries by a New Zealand opener. It's the fifth innings a row where, having made 50, he has gone on to make 100.

The England players clap Latham off and let him leave the field first. He really has batted so well. He has only offered the one chance and when he did Stokes put him down at second slip.

It's the second match in a row Stokes has dropped a batsman who has gone on to make a hundred.
