  1. No success for Essexpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 10 September 2019

    Warwicks 27-0 v Essex

Essex still attacking with four slips for Porter but Warwickshire have got through the opening 10 overs without a great deal of alarm, Rhodes on 12, Sibley five.

  3. Essex turn to spinpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 10 September 2019

    Warwicks 26-0 v Essex

We are going to have some spin after eight overs at Edgbaston as Simon Harmer enters the fray, hoping to emulate that six-wicket second innings haul against the Bears earlier this summer.

  4. No luck for Cookpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 10 September 2019

    Warwicks 25-0 v Essex

Aborted appeal from Sam Cook and he's in a sad mood as he realises Will Rhodes has got an inside edge on this one as it thuds into his pads bang in front of the stumps. To compound matters the seamer is then flicked away to the mid-wicket boundary by the left-hander.

  5. No early breakthrough for Essexpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 10 September 2019

    Warwicks 16-0 v Essex

Watchful from Warwickshire in the opening six overs and England could do with some of that sticktability at the top of the order from Dom Sibley (two from 19 balls) in partnership with Will Rhodes (three from 22 balls).

  6. Hants hold off Morkelpublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 10 September 2019

    Hampshire 6-0 v Surrey

Big Morne Morkel is still a dangerous customer with that steepling bounce and movement away from the right handers off the seam, but Hampshire are a steady 6-0 from the opening five overs at the Ageas Bowl.

  7. wicket

WICKET Crawley lbw b Fletcher 3published at 10:53 British Summer Time 10 September 2019

    Notts v Kent 18-1

Luke Fletcher strikes, with a lovely off cutter which nips in to Zak Crawley and beats the defensive prod.

    That was plumb.

A big boost for Notts after six extras in the opening over.

Jordan Cox is Kent's number three.

  8. Postpublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 10 September 2019

    Warwickshire 15-0 v Essex

Four slips in place for Essex but the sun has broken through at Edgbaston and the pitch looks a beautiful biscuit colour. How many wickets can Essex glean on the opening day having elected to bowl first with the uncontested toss?

  9. Steady as she goes at Tauntonpublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 10 September 2019

    Somerset 5-0 v Yorks

Quite a new-look Somerset side since the last round of Championship matches, as pointed out by Stephen Lamb.

Steady start for the hosts with five runs off four overs so far.

Back-to-back maidens from Yorkshire's Ben Coad and Steven Patterson.

  11. Postpublished at 10:38 British Summer Time 10 September 2019

    Hampshire 0-0 v Surrey

We've just seen one of the widest non-wides for some time, Morne Morkel seaming one away that had first slip diving for cover but umpire Ian "Gunner" Gould decided not to penalise him. Looks a green-tinged wicket at the Ageas Bowl, with Felix Organ and Ian Holland the opening batsmen for Hampshire.

  12. Division Two weather watchpublished at 10:37 British Summer Time 10 September 2019

It looks like we could get something close to a full day's play in all of our second division games too!

Sunny and a light breeze in London, where Middlesex play Durham at Lord's.

Elsewhere, light cloud and a gentle breeze expected at Bristol, Manchester, Leicester and Worcester.

  13. Play begins at Tauntonpublished at 10:34 British Summer Time 10 September 2019

    Somerset 0-0 v Yorkshire

Somerset overseas player Murali Vijay dons the pads first up for Somerset with Steven Davies.

He's likely to be in the slip cordon today, but he'll be hoping he gets a bat later.

    Warwickshire v Essex (10:30 BST)

Australian Peter Siddle took five wickets in the first innings when Essex beat Warwickshire by 187 runs at Chelmsford in July. He's elsewhere now of course but spinner Simon Harmer is in the side and he took six wickets in the second innings in that match.
