    Pretorius c Stokes b Anderson 4 (SA 207-7)

And now he takes this ripper!

James Anderson strikes with the new ball and England are surging towards a first-innings lead.

The slips are standing very close because of the lack of pace in the pitch, but that doesn't stop this one flying towards, and past, Ben Stokes.

It's almost gone when he throws the hands to his right, sending Dwaine Pretorius on his way.

    First ball!

Edge from Dwaine Pretorius, dying on Ben Stokes. In and out at second slip. That's the easiest chance he's had all day.

I couldn't remember a Spira. I had to be told what one was. Like a harder Twirl, apparently. Can you remember when they stopped making Wispas? They had to bring them out of retirement after a four-year campaign to get them reinstated. Sam Curran sends down the final over before the new ball is available. It's time for Broad and Anderson. Broaderson?

With the new ball due on the completion of the next set, this will surely be Dom Bess' final over of the day. From this 14-over spell he's picked up 1-34. It's 1-62 from 27 overall. He's bowled a third of the overs. Job done.

Curran has got lots of skills - he has got lots of skills in his armoury. He has shown it time and time again that when England need something to happen, he makes it happen. And he's a left-armer - there are left-armers in teams all around the world. His variety offers so much.

What do South Africa do here? Stick, or twist? If they keep trying to dog it out, it seems like there is a ball with your name on it. So do you play a few shots, will all the risk that brings? It could cut the deficit quickly, though. It's an easy game from here, talking about retro food.

Dwaine Pretorius is the new man, with the lower order now set to be exposed to the new ball. There's a real chance that England will have a first-innings lead. How likely did that seem this time yesterday? When Philander sweeps Bess, the hadada ibis bird is in the game. Stuart Broad almost has to tiptoe around it.

Curran makes things happen - that's what I love about him. That was almost with the angle coming into Van der Dussen, making him unsure where his off stump is. And Stokes takes another one.

Van der Dussen has played one or two good shots but he has struggled outside off stump. He has pushed at one and Stokes has taken a fine catch - he's had a good day there.

Van der Dussen c Stokes b Curran 68 (SA 200-6)

Ben Stokes is catching flies in the slips today.

England strike again, this time removing the obdurate Rassie van der Dussen, whose luck has finally ran out.

He's playing a nothing shot, neither attacking nor defending and, when Curran extracts a touch of bounce, the horizontal bat serves only to offer catching practice. Stokes, not for the first time today, dives to his right to snaffle the chance.

Now we're talking. I'd argue there's nothing better than fish fingers, oven chips and beans. Maybe chicken kievs instead of the fish fingers. Everyone will have that for their tea at some point in their childhood.
