She hesitated when she saw the keeper running towards her and that's when you knew it was going down.

She was never, ever, ever, ever, ever going to catch that.

    WI 15-1

Safety first for West Indies at this stage - Stafanie Taylor spoke at the toss about the team having used up too many dot balls against Thailand, but she plays out three dot balls against Diana, either wafting and missing or hitting the ball straight to fielders. Then there's a dab to backward point, and Kirby skies the last ball of the over high over mid-wicket... Aiman Anwer runs in from the boundary but shells the chance, having called off keeper Sidra Nawaz who had scampered after it.

The ball was in the air such a long time, they easily ran two.

  4. WI 11-1published at 2 overs

Anam strays down the leg side, Kirby nudges it on its way for four, while a leg bye rotates the strike.

Taylor powerfully square-drives for four - exquisite timing.

  5. WI 2-1published at 1.2 overs

Pakistan give the second over to the left-arm spin of Anam Amin, one of several players in this tournament who choose to bowl in a cap. She's also very round-arm.

Taylor doubles her score with a single but Kirby swings, misses and is nearly bowled...

Hayley Matthews is raging to her team-mates in the dug-out. Is she unhappy she didn't get the right advice from the non-striker?

Kirby has got to help Matthews out there. Matthews might have felt it was in line because she moved about in her crease, but Kirby should have known where that pitched.

  7. WI 1-1published at 1 over

So it's captain Stafanie Taylor out to face the second ball of the match. Baig, right-arm medium pace, keeps it tight, Taylor is off the mark with a single. Great over for Pakistan.

We see a replay of the wicket - or rather, we see several replays from behind the stumps, but haven't seen the ball-tracker yet. Did that pitch outside leg? It's some great outswing to the right-hander in any event.

Survey said... yes - it pitched outside leg. No wonder Matthews is spitting feathers, she had no help from Lee-Ann Kirby there.

She missed the chance to challenge! It could be going down... she'll be seething if it's not out.

Matthews hit on the pad, first ball, gone! Wow!

She looks like she wants to challenge - but the timer's run out, it's too late!

Diana Baig is going to bowl from the Pool End - West Indies' openers are Hayley Matthews and Lee-Ann Kirby.

Matthews can be very good to watch when she gets going - she's very familiar with Australian venues from her experience in the Women's Big Bash League.

West Indies have so much firepower but time and time again we see them be a bit reserved. They should be getting 160-170.

"Rally Round The West Indies" - not a national anthem as such, but one to unite the collection of islands who band together to play in maroon - is always one to stir the bones. Top tune.

Pakistan have a new captain in Bismah Maroof. They are saying, "Let's start again." I've not seen them much since the 2017 World Cup but they need more power hitting at the top of the order.

  16. Postpublished at 07:54 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2020

Teams walk out. West Indies all seem to be taller than their Pakistan counterparts. It's Pakistan's anthem up first.

I think this game is going to be a cracker. West Indies have a very powerful side but we haven't seen that from them yet.

  18. Postpublished at 07:52 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2020

It was a big call for Pakistan to leave the legendary Sana Mir out of their squad - on a par with the time ex-England coach Mark Robinson decided the side needed to move on without Charlotte Edwards - so it'll be interesting to see how they go today.

For West Indies, we hear that Deandra Dottin's shoulder problem will once again prevent her from bowling. A big blow for them.
