There's been a conference between the umpires, the coaches and the captains. It was a long discussion.

Lunch is going to be taken at 12:30 and then they will take another look at 13:10.

It's not raining at the moment. It's actually quite hot and humid.

It seems England have a new fan cheering them on today...

Ben Stokes is out in the middle. I can confirm he definitely has two ears. It doesn't look to be raining at the moment.

I have more good news but this time it isn't weather related...

No cardboard cutout fans here like they have in the football. They used to say I was a cardboard cutout when I fielded.

Fourth umpire Alex Wharf is out there with his face mask on. It is gloomy but the groundstaff are going around the outfield with a rope to try and dry it up.

    Promising.

The umpires are coming up again with their umbrellas down, so that's great. All being well, things are looking a bit brighter.

I've made three trips to the biscuit tin by 11:30. That will be my biggest WFH challenge during this Test.

I'm sure there'll be more significant issues for some of you. Or maybe it just makes it easier to stop hide it from your boss or teacher that you're following?

R rate. Social distancing. Furlough. To the list of things we'd never heard of until 2020 hit, add 'bio-secure environment'.

It started with a home coronavirus test last week. In Southampton, temperatures are taken countless times, there's enough hand gel to sink an aircraft carrier and the reminders to keep a distance even stretch to how many people can sit at each table in the bar.

Do not underestimate the amount of planning that has gone into making this Test series happen.

  17. England wear shirts for key workerspublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 8 July 2020

The England players have been warming up with the names of key workers on the backs of their shirts this morning.

The doctors, nurses, teachers, carers and workers other professions will receive their shirts signed by the players who wore them.

“We’re only able to play this Test match because of the amazing job that key workers up and down the country have done to help us through this pandemic," England's stand-in captain Ben Stokes said.

"Wearing their names is a real honour for us, and is a small sign of our appreciation for the incredible work they have done.

"They have truly gone in to bat for us all, and it makes me proud of how the whole cricket family has responded to help us get through these unprecedented times.”

More light drizzle and the umpire has his umbrella up. How frustrating. The groundstaff have taken every sheet off and now they'll have to put them back on. We're now going to face another period of delay.
