April Hall: Getting ready to recreate the authentic ‘first Test match of the summer’ feeling by listening to @bbctms and clutching a lukewarm coffee on a plastic chair in the garden while the rain drops slowly down the back of my neck.

My colleague Stephan Shemilt is our man in the bio-secure bubble for these matches. He'll be reporting from the ground.

I am bringing you these updates from my living room, which is new for me. Worryingly close to the food in the cupboards, mind.

Alex Coe: I was in the kitchen yesterday evening with 5 Live on the radio, and a familiar voice appeared... it was Jonathan Agnew previewing today's cricket! I think I almost cried with joy!

CafcPaul: In less than one hour's time, the smooth voice of Jonathan Agnew will be gently caressing my ears. Oh yes! Cricket is back.

Stokes has decisions to make too.

England have a battery of quick bowlers to choose from and there is going to some unhappy men missing out.

Reports suggest Stuart Broad, England's second most-successful bowler ever, will be left out with England preferring the pace of Mark Wood and Jofra Archer.

It would be a big call. We'll find out at the toss.

There will be a few extra butterflies in the tummy of this man this morning.

Ben Stokes will lead England for the first time with Joe Root absent to attend the birth of his second child.

But one thing does not change - English cricket's relationship with the weather.

It would have been good if just this once the rain played ball but it was never going to be that simple.

We have an iffy forecast for today but as it stands it is dry...

The eyes of the world are on Southampton and Hampshire's Ageas Bowl.

Things will be different - there'll be no fans or shining the ball with saliva, for starters -but this is cricket and one of the sport's greatest rivalries.

Cricket's post-lockdown existence begins with England v West Indies.

Hello! How are you?! It has been a while...

117 days ago England walked off the field in Sri Lanka when their warm-up was abandoned as the coronavirus pandemic took hold. The squad flew home soon after and cricket has been in lockdown ever since.

A lot has changed - and there have been difficult times - but today cricket returns.

    I cannot wait.
