Day two report

Mark Wood on Sky Sports: "It's been a disappointing day - they are on top. If you look at the situation it’s very similar, we got off to a fairly decent start and then lost wickets and we’ll be hoping for the same tomorrow. We didn’t get it right with the ball, they got their line and length spot on. It’s a bit of cobwebs and rust."

On what he struggled with: "It was my line. I felt a little bit nervous in my first over. I was a bit tense and probably trying a little bit hard and Jimmy said to me about how I’d been bowling in training and that sort of relaxed me. We’ve got a chance to improve tomorrow - they bowled well today but when they started they were a little bit rusty as well."

I think if the West Indies get a century in their innings, they win the match.

England bowler Mark Wood on TMS: "We haven't had the best day so plenty to do. I'd prefer a few in the wickets column rather than the pace column.

"They bowled well and we've got to give them credit, but 204 wasn't on the radar. We'd have liked 250 or 300.

"Bowlers get six chances; as a batter you get one chance. It will take a couple of innings, one good shot and they'll be flying."

On the better weather forecast for Friday: "It will make fast bowling easier than when it's cold and drab - it will be interesting to see how the ball reacts."

On not using being able to use saliva on the ball: "Back sweat has been the major thing at the moment with saliva going out the window. Only your own, although we're mingling the back sweat a little on the ball, I've got some of Jimmy's and Jofra's."

There had been some good balls but once again England have allowed the opposing team well into the game with a few weak dismissals.

Dom Bess and Jimmy Anderson out on 30 to take England beyond 200 but in the end they were dismissed for 204.

Holder took 6-42 and Gabriel 4-62.

Jason Holder challenged both the stumps as well as the outside edge, immaculate consistency, with length and skill as well as swinging it both ways.

With England starting to wrestle back some momentum, Jason Holder brought himself onto bowl after lunch and put his team right on top.

He dismissed both Stokes and Buttler and went on to take his sixth five-wicket haul in his last 10 Tests.

Great day for the West Indies. It wasn't easy, the pitch offered plenty for the bowlers. At the time we thought 204 was competitive but having seen England bowl and West Indies bat, I would suggest England are 70-100 runs light.

When the ball does a bit and moves around, with that uneven bounce and pace, I still watch this England team from behind the curtains when they bat. I don't have full confidence they will play with great clarity.

Let's be honest, from the cricket we have seen, the West Indies have played with more discipline.

Either side of lunch there was a brief rally from England.

England captain Ben Stokes was dropped twice.

There would have been fears among West Indies fans that the tourists had let a good position slip when Stokes and Jos Buttler capitalised, putting on 67.

West Indies would have taken this position at the beginning of yesterday. They used conditions well and battled the storm of Anderson and Archer and devastating pace from Wood, which was consistent.

Jason Holder came to the fore later on but it was actually Shannon Gabriel and his hostility that got the ball rolling for West Indies.

England began on 35-1 but were soon 87-5.

It's been a funny old day but the good news is that there will be sunshine tomorrow and a good opportunity for West Indies to make most of their position.

The floodlights beat down at the Ageas Bowl but there will be no more play.

Conditions are set to improve vastly tomorrow. It looks a good day for batting. England have work to do.

I think Richard Illingworth has swung his arms towards the England dressing room to say that there will be no more play today. I think we can assume that is the end of play.

What makes it even more surprising is England left Broad out of the first Test in the Caribbean last year and that was proved to be a bad decision.

Jon Dunn: So, what have we learned? 80mph plus seam/swing is more effective than 95mph but straight. Almost like Anderson, Broad & McGrath have taught us nothing.
