    Wood c Hope b Holder 5 (Eng 174-9)

Jason Holder has six in the innings and it's another well-taken catch for West Indies.

Mark Wood leans forward and looks to drive but instead the ball flies to Hope in gully, who jumps up to his left and takes it with both hands.

    Career-best figures this for Holder.

Holder averages 11.80 in his last 10 Tests. No bowler has averaged less than 13 over a 10-Test period since Tony Lock in the 1950s. Other than him the only other bowler since the First World War to have done it is Jim Laker.

  3. Eng 174-8published at 15:20 British Summer Time 9 July 2020

A much better over for England.

Dom Bess finds the gap on the off-side for three before Mark Wood lofts the ball through cover for three more.

Sometimes you just have to admire the opposition. Holder has been fantastic.

Earlier this week Jason Holder, despite being ranked number one all-rounder in Test cricket, said he feels like he isn't given the credit he deserves.

Well, judging by your tweets and texts, it seems like most of you are appreciating his work today.

The West Indies captain concedes three runs to Dom Bess.

Ronan Gay: Maybe now people are seeing why Holder is top of the ICC all-rounder rankings?

Ben Howard: Jason Holder is a bit good, isn't he?

That is Jason Holder's seventh five-wicket haul and sixth in this last 10 matches. He took 56 wickets in his first 31 matches at an average of 38. Since then in 10 Tests 55 wickets at an average of 11.80.

  8. Eng 163-8published at 15:13 British Summer Time 9 July 2020

    Bess 4, Wood 2

An hour to go until tea as Alrazzi Joseph continues to trouble Dom Bess. The England number eight flirts with one outside the off stump and is lucky not to have nicked it.

He does eventually connect with a back-foot punch through cover for three runs. And Mark Wood is off the mark with a clip into the leg side.

The first two referrals I think West Indies were confident. This one looked like it might have been going down the leg side but it hit flush on the leg stump.

This game has been turned in the last 20 minutes by the West Indies captain.

What a review. Holder thought about it, stopped himself, then made the sign and shrugged his shoulders. The Windies could barely believe it when they got three reds.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 9 July 2020

    Archer lbw b Holder 0 (Eng 157-8)

Archer has gone for a duck. Five wickets for Jason Holder as yet another umpire decision is reversed, replays showing the ball would have gone on to cleanly hit leg stump.

The ICC number one ranked all-rounder is leading from the front for the tourists.

It just nips back. It is whether it is going down leg or over the top.

Archer is struck on the pads. Given not out. West Indies don't look overly convinced but have decided to review. I think it could be close.

Whatever score England get to it will be competitive because of Jimmy Anderson and co. We have already seen uneven bounce.

Alzarri Joseph back into the attack. He bowled an aggressive, top-class over to Ben Stokes earlier this morning, striking him on the arm at one point.

And he's at it again, Dom Bless counting his blessings that he remembered to wear a box as he is twice hit somewhere on the bottom half of his body. I don't need I think to spell out exactly where.

Nearly 90mph, that will have hurt. Maiden over.

Craig Moore: Jason Holder a tall, line and length bowler who offers a bit of seam movement off the pitch has bowled very well today for his 4 wickets. Can't wait to see how Stuart Broad bowls on it in that case...OH HANG ON!

  20. Eng 157-7published at 14:57 British Summer Time 9 July 2020

Jofra Archer is the new man in and sees out the rest of Holder's over.

England on the ropes again in Southampton.
