That is a brilliant catch. Dowrich went late but he just managed to get there.

There is the proof on this wicket there is always a ball that will offer something.

You always hope your name isn't on one but Jos Buttler's was there.

    Brilliant from Shane Dowrich!

    Buttler c Dowrich b Holder 35 (Eng 157-7)

The Holder-Dowrich combo strike again. And this time it is a fine catch from the West Indies wicketkeeper which sees Jos Buttler head back to the dressing room.

Holder with a ball angling in, late movement away from the batsman and Dowrich dives to his right to take a one-handed grab. Superb.

Anything over 220 or 230, England have to think that with Jimmy Anderson, Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes and Mark Wood they have a decent score.

You are always in the game as a bowler. West Indies might come out and play some shots after seeing how the pitch has behaved.

The focus will now be on Jos Buttler. How will he play this? Is this why he is in the side? Situations like this where he can look to score quickly?

Kemar Roach continues. Buttler flicks it to mid-on and a misfield by Shannon Gabriel gifts England two more runs.

With someone like Kemar Roach that ball would have skidded on, but because it was Holder the ball bounced and hit Stokes' edge.

    Bess 0, Buttler 33

Somerset's Dom Bess the new man in.

Still just under an hour and a half until tea. West Indies will be eyeing up more wickets here.

Good patience by Jason Holder. He will have been thinking that the session hadn't gone to plan but kept plugging away.

Fantastic stuff. He has deserved every wicket he has got today.

    Stokes c Dowrich b Holder 43 (Eng 154-6)

It was the battle of the two best all-rounders in the world. It was the battle of the two captains. And it is Jason Holder who has come out on top.

Ben Stokes looks to push a fullish delivery and edges it straight into the hands of Shane Dowrich behind the stumps.

A big wicket for West Indies. A massive loss for England.

I'm fairly certain that the England players are on the top floor of the hotel. This deduction comes from the number of golf trollies parked on balconies.

  11. Eng 154-5published at 14:42 British Summer Time 9 July 2020

    Stokes 43, Buttler 33

A beauty by Kemar Roach. Absolute cracker. Stokes takes a few steps down the pitch and Roach finds movement away from the batsman. Stokes plays inside the line. Roach has been unlucky not to have picked up a wicket today.

This partnership is now worth 67.

The rain we've had over the past couple of days means we have some revised session times...

    • 13:55-16:10 - afternoon session
    • 16:10-16:30 - tea
    • 16:30-18:44 - evening session (play can continue until 19:14)

I'm sure the mutt is fine, Stephan. Unless he's feeling a little bit ruff?

A change in bowling as Jason Holder brings himself on. A wise change. As impressive as Shannon Gabriel has been so far, he was looking a little tired.

Holder goes full and finds the edge of Buttler's bat, the ball squirting through the slips for four.

    Six from the over.

Someone is walking a dog around the concourse. I want to know if that dog has had a swab test, filled in his questionnaire and been through the temperature tent.

  15. Eng 147-5published at 14:34 British Summer Time 9 July 2020

    Stokes 42, Buttler 27

Ben Stokes rides his luck. He digs out a yorker length delivery from Roach, the ball cannons off the England all-rounder's foot and he almost plays on.

But he then comes back with a gorgeous slap through cover for yet another four. Stokes and Buttler going at some pace since lunch and the England score is starting to look slightly more respectable.

West Indies have looked a little off colour since lunch. The momentum is changing just slightly with the positive intent Stokes and Buttler have brought.

This period of play is why I called for Raymon Reifer to be included in the team. Holder and Gabriel have had injury problems. Now would be the perfect time for Reifer to come on and bowl full and straight at 78mph.

The pennies are being fed into the slot as the floodlights continue to light up the Ageas Bowl. Almost certainly wouldn't have had an uninterrupted day so far without those lights.

Big over for England. Stokes drives Gabriel for three runs and then Buttler then steers it on the up and through cover for four.

Gabriel goes full and Buttler again targets the cover region for another boundary, it's aerial but finds the gap.

Here's Stokes being dropped on 14, albeit a much tougher chance than Brooks' dolly.

  19. Eng 130-5published at 49 overs

Stokes is lurching across his stumps, something which has got more and more pronounced as his career has progressed.

A horrible throw comes in from the deep, bouncing right at Shane Dowrich's toes. Many a club wicketkeeper would have given the fielder a good glare.
