  1. WI 107-2published at 35.2 overs

Jofra Archer has the new batsman in his sights now.

His first ball is a lovely delivery that squares Brooks up. Archer has a smile and a quiet word.

The second is a full toss that Brooks puts away.

Leo: It’s a sign of being a clever spinner to take wickets on a pitch like this. Bess is a very promising young bowler who learns things quickly. Exciting.

  3. WI 103-2published at 35 overs

Right-hander Brooks isn't someone I have seen a lot about but Carlos Brathwaite speaks very highly of him. He expects big things from Brooks in this series.

He gets off the mark early by dropping the ball into a big gap on the off side.

England will hope they can get on a roll and get numbers three and four quickly. And they're going to have to.

There was a bit of anger in Stokes' celebration. England needed that.

31-year-old Shamarh Brooks is the new batter in just his fourth Test.

Stokes takes the catch with so much ease, it went fast and it was sharp. Shai Hope's frustrations continue. His record in one-day cricket is so much better.

There is the breakthrough. The pressure had been building on Hope, he hadn't been the scorer in this partnership.

    Hope c Stokes b Bess 16 (WI 102-2)

    Gone now!

It's not the seamers but Dom Bess who makes the breakthrough. Shai Hope must be kicking himself.

It's a full, wide ball from Bess and Hope has a slash but he edges to Ben Stokes at slip who takes a very good catch.

  9. drinks break

First hour highlightspublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 10 July 2020

Not the first hour England were after.

They have bowled well but chances haven't gone to hand. When they did get the wicket indiscipline has cost them.

The longer the wait for the breakthrough the louder the cries for Stuart Broad will get.

Jeremy Garrett: I’m going say it: Broad and Woakes right now would be finding wickets. They are the bowlers who can find important wickets when others can’t. Leaving one out is bad enough, leaving both out leads to this.

  11. WI 101-1published at 34 overs

And the ball-tracking shows it would have been out lbw had Archer's foot been behind the line.

    Insult added to injury.

So disappointing for England. They set up the batsman so beautifully. Only for it to be overturned for being a no-ball.

  13. Not outpublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 10 July 2020

    Ooops. Not good.

Just when England thought they had the breakthrough it's a no-ball.

Only by a smidge but you just don't need to be that close.

Hold on a second, where is that front foot going? I think it's a no-ball.

That looked pretty straight, I have to say. It seemed to keep a bit low, I don't think height is an issue. If he did hit it, he would have reviewed it straight away.

    Yes Archer can!

    Shai Hope given out lbw.

Archer tosses the ball menacingly from hand to hand at the top of his run. Can he make something happen for England?

    Carlos Brathwaite
West Indies all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

One criticism of Kraigg Brathwaite in the past has been his lack of gears once he has got in, just going through the gears and moving along efficiently. But once Dom Bess has come on, Kraigg has been after him.
