That's trademark Sam Curran! Roston Chase tosses the ball up and the England left-hander clobbers him into the stand over long-on.

Kemar Roach had 513 balls between getting Virat Kohli out for a golden duck in September 2019 and dismissing Ben Stokes today.

I've been in contact with Andrew Samson and he says the longest spell he knows of is England's Maurice Tate who, in the 1920s, went 952 balls between wickets.

There's some serious talent on show in that competition. AB de Villiers, Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, Temba Bavuma and others. And big Anrich Nortje of course. It'll be interesting if a little different.

A couple takes Buttler into the thirties and England beyond 400. I almost missed the landmark with no crowd here to cheer it.

Tomorrow we have cricket of a different kind for you to enjoy.

You can watch 3TeamCricket in the Solidarity Cup, a new South African competition which features three - yes, three - teams playing in the same game.

Tune in from 09:45 BST to see what it looks like. You can follow the action on BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport website or the Red Button.

  5. Eng 397-7published at 148 overs

    Buttler 27, Curran 1

Sam Curran gets off the mark at the 12th attempt. He's sporting a lengthy hair do under that helmet. Maybe that's why he had his hood up all day yesterday on the England balcony. I thought he was just cold but maybe he was embarrassed.

  6. Eng 396-7published at 147 overs

England have stalled. That's three maidens in a row now.

Here's how Ben Stokes' brilliant innings came to an end.

It's a real shame there were not 25,000 northerners on their feet applauding him from the field. Stokes deserved it.

I didn't think it was possible to look as cool while having two caps on your head as John Campbell currently looks. Superb work.

Curran is just having a look before the inevitable thrash he'll soon have. He has faced 10 balls and is yet to score.

  8. Eng 396-7published at 145 overs

    Buttler 26, Curran 0

Kemar Roach is still bounding in. He's a great bowler. 31 overs he had bowled now in this innings. Those two wickets have taken him to 195 Test scalps. Just five more for the big landmark.

Ben Stokes faced 356 balls, and hit two sixes and 17 fours. It's his second-highest score in Test cricket.

  10. Eng 396-7published at 144 overs

England may have lost quick wickets but they will be cheered by the fact this ball is still swinging and there is plenty of turn for Roston Chase.

Oooh! That went straight over the middle stump.

  13. Eng 395-7published at 143 overs

    Buttler 25, Curran 0

He may have survived the hat-trick ball with ease but I don't have a clue how Curran has got away still unbeaten after his second.

The ball goes between bat and pad and about an inch above middle stump.

Those questions about a declaration now seem premature.

  14. Eng 395-7published at 142.4 overs

Sam Curran lets the hat-trick ball pass by. An anti-climax.

These wickets have caught Sam Curran on the hop. He takes an age to appear from the dressing room.

He will have to compose himself before facing the hat-trick ball...

Kemar Roach is on a hat-trick. Chris Woakes has edged his first ball to gully. After waiting all that time he lasts about a minute. He shouldn't have bothered getting out of his seat.

It's hard to describe how good a batter Stokes is now. Every single situation, he has a game plan for. He can score all around the ground. I love watching him bat. The record since he's come back from the Bristol incident has been phenomenal. He's a pleasure to watch.
