Finally, Kemar Roach has his wicket! It was an ambitious shot and Roach has toiled away manfully.

Urgh. Not one for the purists. Ben Stokes tries to hack a reverse sweep over the slips off seamer Kemar Roach. He gets a thin snick and has to slump off.

    Still, a magnificent innings from England's all-rounder.

Roach finally has a wicket in the series too.

England do seem to be stepping on it now.

  4. Eng 395-5published at 142 overs

    Stokes 176, Buttler 25

Jos Buttler gets down again, sweeping in conventional fashion this time. It's hit with just as much ferocity as the reverse and the fielder has no chance.

And a full toss from Chase! Jos Buttler could have put that away left-handed.

    13 from the over.

Buttler unleashes a reverse sweep that fully deserves the ooohs and ahhhs of a packed Old Trafford. Instead there is silence as the ball reaches the boundary. Odd.

As a Gloucestershire fan, I used to will Zaheer to get runs against England, if only to watch his glorious strokes..sadly Mike Proctor didnt get a chance to play against England.

I've spent far too many hours of my life watching Steve Smith bat in the last few years for me to be impartial in this one. I'll stay quiet.

Poor Kemar Roach continues, searching for a first wicket for an eternity, and Buttler blocks him solidly.

Craig Moore: RE: Milo 16:13 Steve Smith!?! Having a laugh aren't you? I'm still having nightmares about him batting. Sends shudders down the spine!

  9. Eng 381-5published at 140 overs

There is a bit of talk around when an England declaration should come. I'd be batting for a long while yet. Get 500 and then reassess. There's a bit of rain forecast for tomorrow but there's still plenty of time left in the match.

Ben Stokes reverse sweeps, perhaps a sign he'll try to score quickly.

Absolutely, Fred. Two of the all-time greats. Lovely fellas too.

    Roston Chase continues after tea.

Fred Corbett: Kumar Sangakkara & Mahela Jayawardene are two of the greatest players I’ve seen. Never had a problem losing to them. Same with Ellyse Perry as well. I hate losing to Australia in any sport and in every format, but Perry is pretty awesome.

The umpires have just made their way back into the field after a quick squirt of the hand sanitiser on the boundary edge.

    That sentence is very 2020.

Steve Smith. I know he's had his critics outside of the game, but you can't help but love the sheer perfection of his game. One of a kind.

England opener Dom Sibley, who made 120, on losing 12kg: "During lockdown there wasn't anything I could do to improve cricket-wise, so if I had sat around and not improved anything I would have come into this series feeling a little bit like I hadn't done anything.

"To lose that weight was obviously pleasing in terms of fitness, but in terms of having that in the mental bank to draw upon when things get tough out there, is something that's good for me."

You can hear more from Sibley on Today at the Test at 19:00 BST on BBC Two and on this very website.
