If you're eagle-eyed, you will have spotted that the England dressing room has signs on the window limiting the number of people inside.

England are travelling with 22 players (minus Jofra, who is in his hotel room), plus loads of coaches and staff.

The need for extra space has seen them take up rooms ordinarily used by the press. Some players are using the pressbox as a viewing area, while the usual press dining room is being used to serve players.

Right. I, as a grown adult human, am going for a nap.

Mark Burt: There’s no doubt whatsoever that Stokes has supplanted Root as England’s best batsman. He is on a different level now. Awesome.

Stokes can do no wrong. He seems to be getting better and better. He ground it out with Sibley, then he has the ability to flick a switch - he plays the shots, and he has it all under control.

Incidentally, Ben Stokes' face in the below video at about 15 seconds is an absolute delight.

Jos Buttler dead bats his way through the over, and he and Ben Stokes head off for a cuppa.

    A terrific session for England.

Brett Lee for me, I always had the feeling the aggression was all a bit put on, and he was actually a really nice bloke. With some serious heart too.

    Oh!

A huge appeal from Roston Chase, who ends up flat on his back as he pleads with the umpire, convinced he's got Ben Stokes out. It's absolutely going on to miss the stumps, but 10/10 for the appeal.

The way England are piling on the runs, you can't help but wonder what it would be like if the empty seats were filled with spectators.

Old Trafford usually has the party stand, the zoo of fancy dress and whiff of lager. In other stands, fans usually gather at the back, standing and chattering.

The pavilion is for members, quiet, the smell of chips from the canteen. The concourse buzzing. I once saw a game of cricket where the punishment for being out was having to be spun around in a giant bin.

A filthy bit of leg side freebieness from Roston Chase, and Ben Stokes helps it on its way down to the boundary.
