That would have gone straight to third slip and it's flown to the boundary. Jos Buttler got away with that.
Well there's the risk/reward of taking on the new ball.
Jos Buttler drives at wide-ish ball and nicks it - but straight through a gap in the cordon for four.
Kemar Roach flashes that rueful grin once more.
Kemar Roach is on target first up, ducking it in towards Ollie Pope's pads but the set batsman taps it away into a gap for one.

Jos Buttler's half-century came up off 104 balls with two sixes and four fours. It is his 17th score of 50+ in Test cricket. It's only his second though in 24 innings and 13 Tests going back to the start of last summer's Ashes series.
How do England play this?
New ball always dangerous but can also ping off the bat.
Eng 246-4
That's that for the spinners.
Jason Holder calls for the second new ball.
Kemar Roach will bowl with it first up.
Jos Buttler crawled to 18 before two big sixes off Rahkeem Cornwall helped kick him into gear.
It's been tremendous accumulation since and he punches a couple more through cover to bring up a fine 50.
Can he keep it going?

It is just a sign of a bowling attack that has played three Tests on the trot. It is their own wrongdoing that they haven't changed the team. They've got to take the new ball.
Still no. Another over of Roston Chase.
Pope 84, Buttler 49
Ollie Pope does some more scampering to pick up a single and Jos Buttler does the same to move to 49.
Jason Holder is back on the field - time for the new ball?

West Indies desperately need wickets and I just don't understand the theory behind not taking the new ball.

Jack Allum: Really impressed with Pope - he hasn’t gone into his bunker once. He is a “busy” player as well. If he can’t hit a boundary he looks to scamper about. Just what I like.
Nope. They're going to stick with off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall for now.
Kemar Roach does look to be loosening up though.
Will West Indies take the new ball straight away?

That is a beautiful shot. He used his feet and he is not allowing Roston Chase to settle at all.
Too good.
Ollie Pope advances down the pitch and hits it straight back down the ground for four.
Real authority in that.
Wrists. Ridiculous wrists.

I really hope this innings is the start of the real Jos Buttler in test cricket. I really hope it isn't a flash in the pan that keeps him in the side for another two series with nothing to follow.

Jos Buttler pushes through point off the last ball and picks up a single to keep the strike.
Just one over to go under West Indies have the new ball available. But is Shannon Gabriel fit enough to give it a blast alongside Kemar Roach?
