You can see Australia are trying to become a better team at playing spin and already we can see them playing the sweep shot. It's not a shot you normally find an Australian team playing.
The lack of crowd doesn't feel quite right for an ODI against Australia, does it? Friday afternoon, Old Trafford would be absolutely rocking now. The Party Stand would have the fancy dress, smell of stale lager and sticky floor. Like being in a cheesy nightclub.

The walls of our hotel are decorated with photographs of legends who have graced the Old Trafford turf. There's a pleasing one on the route to the lifts. On the right, a black and white picure of Ian Botham, in full flight in the 1981 Ashes. On the left, a photograph of Beyonce, pre-Single Ladies dance routine. Combining cricket and Beyonce, my two favourite things, is something that should be done more often.
The in-form Adil Rashid is into the attack, his leggies primed to tease and tickle the Aussies. Slip in place, Labuschagne almost getting into a tangle with a pre-meditated sweep. A googly is just a touch too straight, allowing Marsh to turn fine for four.

Moeen is bowling his off-breaks with the benefit of the big leg-side boundary, but a powerful Marsh sweep still goes behind square for four. Moeen has been expensive. 22 from his three overs.

My brother bought me a book titled 'The Problems of Cricket' from before the Second World War for my birthday. There is a whole chapter on "The Light" showing it is an eternal problem.

Wood 2-22
Mitchell Marsh is the new man. He played well in the third T20, but England will think they have a chance here. Looking again, that was an excellent catch by Jos Buttler, flying to his right.

Australia have been exposed at number five and six over the last year or so.

Was Stoinis thinking about the short ball? He just didn't get close enough to that delivery. It's a good, sharp catch from Buttler, it went fast.
Stoinis c Buttler b Wood 43 (Aus 80-3)
England have another! Pace does it again, Mark Wood picking up his second. Again it's a full length, Marcus Stoinis driving but only getting a thick edge. Jos Buttler takes a fine diving catch in front of where first slip would have been. Slow pitch? It's Wood and Archer that have done the damage.

Looking at how can England can become better before the next World Cup, they can be a better fielding team. You look at that last T20 game in particular, their fielding was horrific.
Stoinis is making the most of the opportunity presented to him by Steve Smith's net-session thwack to the bonce. A powerful biff down the ground brings for off Moeen, a couple of bounces to the long-off fence.

My wife bought me a cricket day with Phil Tufnell (with others) at Lord's, massive massive excitement, my mate cancelled his family hols to also attend. Then a month beforehand the day was cancelled. Absolutely gutted.

Still a slip in place as Wood thunders in to Labuschagne. With the field restrictions relaxed, there's a sweeper on the off side to cut off a flowing drive from the man born in South Africa. Wood is touching 92mph.

It's a steady start for Australia, it must be so hard to play against England because it's hard to know what a good score is. The England batting line-up is so powerful.
Stoinis 34, Labuschagne 8
Labuschagne is trying to get outside off stump, which helps him when he's hit on the pad - outside the line, so shouldn't be lbw. Australia work it around well. Five from the over.
