Morning Stephan, this morning I've taken a break from rolling out the lawn in preparation for arrival of my wife's birthday present: a bowling machine. (Leanne's choice I hasten to add...) She has come to cricket late but clearly my bowling is no longer sharp enough for her developing batting.

If I could pick one member of the England team to be my mate, it would be Chris Woakes. Dependable, stands up in a crisis, magnificent hair. He's from Birmingham, but no one is perfect. Just two of his over.

It's definitely a tactic for Aaron Finch against Jofra Archer, both feet in the popping crease and just help the ball round. He's looking for that shot. It could get him in trouble, but he plays it well.

Tomorrow night, when Match of the Day comes on, sing this to the theme tune.

"Match of the Day is coming on now, Match of the Day is coming on."

Fits perfectly. When you do it once, you'll never not do it again.

In less important matters, Aaron Finch has played a glorious Alec Stewart-style swivel pull off Jofra Archer for four.

Dave Amitri: Re Thomas The Tank Engine. When my boys were growing up I worked out that the names on the back of the books scan perfectly with the theme tune. If you come straight in with "Thomas The Tank Engine, Edward and Henry, Gordon and James Percy and Toby etc" Hours of fun

Woakes was rather asking for it there, drifting on the leg side.

  7. Aus 25-1published at 5 overs

Finch is batting out of his crease for Woakes, which backs up the theory that this is a slowish pitch. If you know Old Trafford, the pitch is on the far side of the square from where the Party Stand usually is. So, when Stoinis tucks one of his pads in that direction, it's a huge chase for Eoin Morgan, ultimately in vain. Finch is pinching singles, too. A single-thief, if you will.

Alex Edwards: I will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever get tired of seeing David Warner get out early.

Stoinis, unusually batting in a long-sleeved shirt, is in to a nice cover drive for three. Good thinking. The best way to play Archer is probably from the other end.

Stoinis is a hard-hitter, he can be dangerous. But a Steve Smith, he ain't.

I quite enjoyed David Warner standing there, practising a perfect forward defensive while England went wheeling away to celebrate. Beauty.

  12. Aus 13-1published at 3.1 overs

Marcus Stoinis is the new man. That was 90mph from Archer. Even though it was full, Warner went nowhere. Done for pace.

That cleaned him completely, the bails scattered and flashed. Warner was definitely hanging back but I tell you what, as a fast bowler, that's a beauty. A really good ball.

    Warner b Archer 6 (Aus 13-1)

Bowled him! That is an absolute rozzer from Jofra Archer. David Warner is trapped on the crease and it nips back at high pace, taking the top of off peg. Play that, Reverend.

Russ Harker: Watching on TMS from a very sunny and warm Leipzig. Let’s hope England can get out of the starting blocks. Seems the pitch will be neutral for the duration.

  16. Aus 13-0published at 3 overs

Warner is wafting outside the off stump, flapping around like an elephant's trunk. Only when Woakes serves one up on the pads does he tuck to long leg for a single. I think Aaron Finch has just called for an armguard. These Aussies don't like it up em.

A good shot from Finch, very nicely timed. Wood was getting nowhere near that.

  18. Aus 12-0published at 2 overs

We often say it, but the gold draped around Archer's neck really is magnificent. A long half volley is sweetly driven past mid-off by Finch, jolting Jofra into action. The rest of the over is cranked up, including a beauty that nips away from the jerking Warner.

Ruth Rebecca Jones: Last time I saw England vs Aussies live was the World Cup semi at Edgbaston. Hoping for a similar result. Remember the roar from the Hollies when Warner was out. Spine-tingling.

  20. Aus 5-0published at 1 over

Jofra Archer at the other end. He starts with a wide down the leg side.
