Those overthrows brought up the 50 partnership from 79 balls.

Overthrows! This is what happens when you put pressure on the field like this.
It's all going Pakistan's way after lunch.
Shadab looks for a dab and run, he's sent back by his partner, Dom Bess with a shy at the stumps and Pakistan take two runs courtesy of the overthrow. Frustrating for England.
Shot! It's on the up and wide from James Anderson and Shadab cuts it down to point for four. Stand and deliver kinda stuff.

It's good stuff from Pakistan, but I don't imagine Stuart Broad is too enamoured with it...
Shan Masood 88, Shadab Khan 27
Broad continues. Pakistan have come out with a clear game plan, take those singles and any momentum away from the England bowlers. The new ball coming nicely off the bat as they add two more to this first innings score.
Both Broad and Anderson bowled superbly this morning. Don't just take my word for it, here's Michael Vaughan's analysis...

It's a bit like yesterday. England were terrific in the first session then they came out after lunch and surrendered the initiative.
Six sixes in an over or 10 wickets in an innings... taking absolutely nothing away from making a 147 break in snooker, but both of those are much more difficult/bigger feats.
Anderson has the ball zipping over the middle stump of Shadab Khan. Just a single from the over.
Is Pakistan batting coach Younus Khan still sat in his seat making notes? Of course he is.

Luke Rundle: Cricket's 147 has to be the six sixes in an over.
Doctor Joker: It has to be 10 wickets in an innings, only way to get a 'perfect' individual performance. Done by one Anil Kumble.

Broad and Anderson this morning were utterly miserly. The pressure was on. Then suddenly, in 20 minutes, there's 27 runs as England try to be too cute by bowling two off-spinners. The consequence is Shadab, who had one run in 14 balls, has suddenly got 20.
Shan Masood 87, Shadab Khan 22
Shadab Khan is up for playing some shots here. He looks to pull a rising delivery from Broad, completely miscues and is fortunate not to hit it straight into the hands of mid-wicket.
Shan Masood is edging closer to that century as he clips Broad off the pads and to the backward-point boundary for four.
How costly are those Jos Buttler missed chances from yesterday?

Pakistan have mustered 27 runs in five overs without suffering any alarm. I think England were being a bit too clever there. I can understand Bess and a seamer bowling, but you have to admire Pakistan, who have assessed the situation, been impish, sweeping constantly and timing it well.
Pak 214-5
Yes, they will. And first up to try it out is Stuart Broad.

That was a very curious 18 minutes of play, and let us hope it is never repeated.
Great question, Dr Burton. The first crucible maximum since 2012. Which incidentally comes behind closed doors. We talk a lot about how the impact of not having any fans. Does it make things a little bit easier? Less pressure?
Brilliant running from Pakistan who rotate the strike and take five from Joe Root.
Will England take this new ball straight away?

Dr Bruce Burton: As there's just been a 147 at the Crucible my mind turned to what would represent the nearest equivalent in a Test match. Hat-trick? Triple hundred?
Ollie Pope is ducking and weaving more than a featherweight boxer as he moves out of the way of another Shadab Khan sweep.
It's been far too easy for Pakistan straight after lunch with the two spinners on. This partnership is now worth 33 from 53 balls.
One more over until the new ball is available.

I wonder how aggressive Shadab Khan will be. He looked like he fancied a go at Root after blocking the seamers.
Ben Stokes at slip and Ollie Pope at short leg as Joe Root continues.
And Pope almost takes one in the chops as Shadab sweep to square leg.
Three singles from the over, scoreboard ticking along.

I don't think the old pros, who bowled so tightly, will like watching runs come so easily. England are being too cute here. They've got bowlers galore.
