Drinks, which gives us time to reflect on this glorious photo of England's Test captain and vice-captain.

Shan Masood got his timing and stride to perfection. A lovely shot.

  3. Pak 159-4published at 62 overs

    Masood 55, Rizwan 4

A boundary! A bit too full and a bit too wide from James Anderson, and Shan Masood frees his arms to flay four through cover.

That shot by Rizwan was almost Caribbean-like in its extravagance.

  6. Pak 154-4published at 61 overs

Oh, and Chris Woakes bowls a stunner of an away swinger first up, and it almost pays dividends as Mohammad Rizwan has a loose shovel at it.

A run! A 42-ball barren spell is ended as Rizwan gets off the mark with an angled bat through third man.

Stuart Broad will take a breather with Chris Woakes, who was the pick of the bowlers yesterday, coming on.

I've been coming to Old Trafford for a long time. My earliest memories of watching proper cricket are here, back to when Mike Atherton was England captain, through to Alec Stewart making a ton in his 100th Test, then managing to get in for the 2005 Ashes Test when thousands were locked out. Only yesterday did I notice there's a tower block across the road called Wisden.

  9. Pak 150-4published at 60 overs

We might be in for a double change very shortly, as Jofra Archer is doing some gentle warm-ups.

Ben Stokes and Joe Root are in stitches over something as they stand in the slip cordon. Not sure I'd fancy being stood next to those two while I try and concentrate.

I can see Chris Woakes warming up vigorously so that might be it for Stuart Broad.

It was only a thin outside edge. You can see he got squared up, his technique is going to get questioned over the next 20 minutes.

A little outside edge - Mohammad Rizwan's feet were stuck in mud as he played that but he's got the tiniest of nicks on it to earn himself a reprieve.

Rizwan sends it upstairs straight away...

That was a class delivery from Anderson. Pakistan have to somehow hang in there. If they can get past 250 they will have done well.

  18. Pak 150-4published at 58 overs

    Anderson 13-5-39-1

I won't know what to do with myself when Anderson and Broad stop bowling in tandem. Together, they've claimed 897 wickets. There's only one better partnership than that - Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne, who snaffled a handy 1,001 Test wickets together.

James Anderson comes perilously close to making it 898 as he sneaks a delivery past an edgy Shan Masood.

Gryllidae cricket: With the Babar Azam wicket, James Anderson has dismissed a batsman on 69 runs for the first time.

Number of different scores batsmen were on when dismissed by bowlers in men's Tests: 117: Muralitharan 113: Kumble 104: J Anderson* 103: K Dev.

That's the fifth time Stuart Broad has dismissed Asad Shafiq in Test cricket. England have been very good this morning. A hint of lateral movement with a ball which is more than 50 overs old.

This next partnership is the last of the most prominent partnerships for Pakistan, they don't have a lot of batting to come.
