The rain has actually stopped but it looks very ominous to the right.
The square has been covered but although the rain has eased, there are puddles forming on the tarpaulins, illuminated by the floodlights, so we could be in for a lengthy delay here.

I am in Fair Oak, 3 miles away, I can see the ground from the top of my road. We have hail! Start running now!

But I thought it only rained in Manchester and every Test should be played south of Sheffield?

It's going to get wet out there pretty quickly, it's hammering down.

Suddenly something has happened. I don't know what happened there. The players and umpires are absolutely running for it. It's quite heavy rain coming in now.
Pak 85-2
Thanks to Justin Goulding for stepping in there for a few minutes with his web stream. We lost pictures amid all these threatening skies. It looked to be dry and sunny but suddenly the wind has got up, the rain is coming down and they have decided to come off.

Abid 49, Babar 7
Full, straight, and worked off his toes for three by Babar. Pakistan are gritting it out. Is that it for Anderson's spell?
Anderson to continue against Babar. England's best* bowler to Pakistan's best batsman. This is the contest.
*Some people may disagree.

The thunder continues to crack, although it does sound slightly further away now.
That said, this does not look promising...
32 overs
Broad challenging Babar Azam, who collects three through the covers. Abid Ali sees out the rest of the over. He's on 49.

That was a long rumble of thunder. Does the length of the rumble mean anything?
Umpire Michael Gough definitely thinks it's going round the back.

Absolutely tipping it down here in Milford on Sea (20 miles west of Southampton). It's coming!

Just as Azhar Ali fell there was a big rumble of thunder from over the golf course.
Very threatening skies as Babar Azam arrives at the crease. Lightning around they say and the groundstaff are hovering.
Phil Tufnell
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
It's well deserved for England and Jimmy Anderson. You could see him getting more frustrated, he's bowled beautifully.
You just get the feeling if the rain doesn't come then it could be a tricky little 30-40 minutes for Pakistan.

It's about time too! Rory Burns had some extra practice at lunch and he's made no mistakes this time.
It was a patient innings without ever really looking in.
Azhar c Burns b Anderson 20 (Pak 78-2)
No problem with the slip catch this time, safely pouched low down.
