It's not raining but it has got darker again. If the ground was dry enough I'm not sure we'd be playing because of the light.

Stephen Hicks: This morning's English Channel earthquake report was definitely a false detection - this was confirmed by the reporting agency in France and the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (I am a seismologist).

Did you feel the earth move this morning or not? There was an earthquake just off the coast of Eastbourne, just down the road from here. It was three on the Richter scale apparently.

The irony that had this Test been at Old Trafford we'd have had uninterrupted play all of today and it looks better for the next few days.

John Shaw: Cricket at the Ageas Bowl (always a Rose to me) rained off ! I’m at Sholing a couple of miles away and haven’t had a drop although we’re screaming out for some.

The groundstaff busily brushing the water off the covers in formation. A reminder that umpires Richard Kettleborough and Michael Gough will have an inspection in 20 minutes.

England have been asking the right questions and testing the defences of the Pakistan batsman. It was the right decision for Pakistan to bat first. You are always searching for singles because the England bowlers won't give you any runs so you've got to look to be proactive. In these conditions you will get a ball that can get you out so you need to rotate the strike.

Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

If this pitch does dry out and become fairly batsman friendly England are going to lack that 90mph edge. Much has been made that Jofra Archer and Mark Wood are fit and ready to go.

I thought Jofra bowled extremely well in the first innings at Old Trafford. Some of his comments on day two were a bit naive about not bending his back and the ball is turning already. They were ill-advised and I hope someone has had a chat with him.

If I was to ever lose my job at the BBC, being part of the groundstaff at a Test cricket ground would be high on my list of potential alternate careers.

You get to drive the super-sopper and there's currently a guy in the middle at the Ageas using a leaf blower to spray away standing water. Great fun.

Does anyone want to make me an offer?

Andrew Neill: Re Matthew Henry. No storms in and around Newcastle upon Tyne recently. I've had to apply factor 50 twice a day for each of the last 6 or 7 days I've been outside. Should have brought the Tests up here!!!

Rachel T: Cricket should be played in Lincolnshire. It hasn’t rained for any of the Tests and it’s not raining now. Come east!
