Rufus: Team for the next Test: Burns, Sibley, Crawley, Root, Pope, Thorpe, Buttler, Woakes, Broad, Archer, Anderson.

Graham Thorpe is that Rufus? The 51-year-old who played his last of his 100 Tests in 2005?

Naseem already up at 89mph in his second over with his classical, athletic fast bowler's action. It will be interesting to see how fast he can go in the future.

If I was bowling I'd be trying to get a few cheap poles here.

The bright sunshine is not offering the same assistance to the bowlers as the heavy, overcast cloud cover of yesterday morning under the lights, but Abbas still capable of beating Sibley's bat at 80mph and he has 0-18 from seven overs.

I feel so sorry for the likes of Ben Foakes and Jack Leach not playing any cricket. They are just in the nets every day.

    Crawley 21, Sibley 8

The energetic 17-year-old paceman Naseem Shah comes into the attack in the sunshine and immediately finds Crawley's edge, which falls short of first slip.

England reserve wicketkeeper Ben Foakes over on the nursery ground catching some deliveries out of the bowling machine. He didn't do much wrong in five Tests; one hundred, one fifty, average of 41, 10 catches and two stumpings.

Crawley has looked good this afternoon, with some neat strokes.

  8. Eng 33-1published at 12 overs

    Pak 236

Sibley clips Abbas for two more off his pads and then calmly plays out the remainder of the over, a watchful eight from 34 balls for the England opener thus far.

What's interesting is we've been listening to a lot of Pakistan chat and noise out there but there isn't very much.

  10. Eng 31-1published at 11 overs

    Sibley 6, Crawley 21

Crawley, who has two Test fifties to his name, chips Shaheen safely through the vacant mid-wicket area for three more runs. Huge amounts of sand/sawdust in the run-up from the hotel end, like a football highlights programme of a mid-season match from the 1970's.

In the last six summers in England there have only been two draws, so this will only be the third in 39 Tests. The last time there was a draw, when we didn't get to the fourth innings, was the Trent Bridge Test against India in 2014.

  12. Eng 27-1published at 10 overs

Abbas probing away around the off stump with that unusual action around 79mph, but Sibley leaving the ball well and not being drawn in.

James: I know it’s great the Test match is on but surely with only 3 hours left to play with the only outcome is a draw. Surely it’s not worth the players risking an injury as the third Test match is going to important for the outcome of the series.

  14. Eng 26-1published at 9 overs

    Sibley 6, Crawley 17

A beautiful off-drive from Crawley this time, Shaheen conceding three as it slows up a little in the outfield, which was after all completely under water less than 12 hours ago.

Shaheen from the hotel end. Four slips await but nothing like the intensity of that opening over yesterday when he claimed the wicket of Rory Burns. Already at 88mph though, the big left-armer.

StokedOwl: Surely England should get themselves bowled out for 35, ask Pakistan to declare and then it becomes a bit of Twenty20 chase! And someone will win!

  20. Eng 12-1published at 6 overs

The pitch looks in fine order, the colour of a digestive biscuit. An opportunity for the two young England batsmen. Abbas nipping that ball around again both ways, though, and catching Crawley a nasty one in the solar plexus.
