Today at the Test presenter Isa Guha and pundit Phil Tufnell went out on the outfield this morning to assess conditions.

It's pretty easy to see why we're not playing.

It's raining again...

The umpires will do a second inspection in an hours time.

But, it's started raining and the hover cover and covers are going back on the pitch.

England spinner Dom Bess on TMS: "We've been told to stay in our rooms for a bit. We are just sat in the team room waiting to hear what's next.

"We've played a lot of cards. Nomination is the favourite. Buttler, Burns, Crawley, myself. Jimmy and Broady have also been involved as well.

"It is getting a bit tedious but everyone has put so much into getting the games on so it's not that big a problem being in a bubble sitting around.

"For the lads playing it is easier because we can focus on the game but the lads who aren't it can get really tedious and that's where a lot of the effort has to go to. Sticking together as a team is really important."

The whispers in the media area are that the outfield is very wet. What I'm currently seeing from the umpires suggests the same. They're doing a lot of pressing down on the ground with their feet.

Michael Gough has just stamped on a part of the outfield and I saw water splash up.

We're not playing any time soon folks...

Umpires Michael Gough and Richard Kettleborough are out in the middle doing the inspection.

My initial thoughts are neither seem very happy.

It's one of those days as a player where there is not a great deal to gain. Pakistan can take a little bit of positivity into the next game if they can take a few wickets.

BBC Weather's Simon King: "There were eight or nine millimetres of rain in an hour and a half last night so a matter of time for them to get the ground ready. In terms of the forecast, it will be mostly dry with sunny spells. There is the risk of a shower but they will be hit and miss and not as heavy as the one you had this morning.

"People have asked about the third Test starting on Friday. At the moment it is staying unsettled, but very windy. It will be largely dry into the weekend though."

There is no breeze to dry the outfield. I looked at Southampton Airport and it was one knot - which is basically zero.

Even if the outfield does dry, today's forecast is mixed so I wouldn't get your hopes up too much that we'll see a decent amount of cricket.

We've got blue sky, some high white cloud and an absolutely soaked outfield.

The outfield is very, very wet from the overnight storm and rain that Matt mentions.

The umpires are going to do an initial inspection at 11 and we'll go from there.

There was a big storm here overnight. The thunder woke me up... briefly.

At one point the outfield looked more like a swimming pool and there was further rain this morning, but that stopped around 9:30 BST.

The puddles have gone and the umpires have done an inspection in the last 20 minutes.

They did a lot of pressing down on the ground with their feet and prodding with umbrellas.

It's been a frustrating four days, hasn't it?

The regulations have been questioned. The umpires have been questioned. The groundstaff have been questioned.

All in all it has been a pretty bad look for the sport.

Day two - 41.2 overs

Day three - 0 overs

Day four - 10.2 overs

Day five - ???
