That was a big appeal from Yasir but not much support from his fielders. There was a big, thick inside edge there.

  2. Eng 84-2published at 23 overs

An impressive appeal from Yasir Shah, vociferous and yet ultimately pointless, as Joe Root has got a healthy inside edge on this drifting delivery.

It's been a good morning for Zak Crawley, who is two runs away from a half-century.

  4. Eng 82-2published at 22 overs

Naseem Shah drops to his haunches as Zak Crawley works him fine for an easy single.

I think Joe Root was in two minds. At first he wanted to leave it and then decided to leave it because it just wasn't short enough.

  6. Eng 81-2published at 21.4 overs

Quicker from Naseem Shah and shorter, surprising Joe Root, who gets into a bit of a tangle trying to play it and gets rapped on the gloves in the process. Ouch. Root grins at Naseem as he stomps back to hs mark.

Naseem finds the outside edge of Root's bat but it drops just short of Yasir Shah at third slip, who tries to stop it, and misses.

Zak Crawley is very active against spin and always looking to score - he uses his feet the moment he sees a bit more flight.

There was some nice drift, lovely seam position and a touch of spin.

  9. Eng 77-2published at 21 overs

    Crawley 47, Root 3

Yasir Shah beats Zak Crawley's outside edge with a devil of a delivery, the ball just drifting past the bat as Crawley pushes forward.

Crawley's response is a tidy, back-foot drive that rolls away for a single.

  11. Eng 76-2published at 20 overs

Joe Root, wisely, hustles a quick single. Much better to face Naseem at the non striker's end, I'd imagine.

Ooh. Zak Crawley plays a rare loose shot, an amibitious drive, losing his shape as he swings at fresh air. There might be something happening here...

With Shaheen and Naseem, they've played 30 odd first-class games. Not much experience, just raw talent.

  13. Eng 74-2published at 19.2 overs

A bit of nip and zip from Naseem Shah's first delivery to Joe Root, the extra bounce just taking the ball past the England skipper's outside edge.

And again! Same ball, same result, and Root wanders down for a suspicious prod of the pitch.

That's a brilliant decision from Michael Gough, one you would never have seen before DRS.

Joe Root, as is his wont, gets off the mark straight away with a nicely-timed cut for one.

    Sibley lbw b Yasir 22 (Eng 73-2)

Hitting middle stump three-quarters of the way up!

Nicely bowled from Yasir Shah, just a little straighter, and if truth be told, Dom Sibley just missed it. It hit him low on the front pad, round about ankle height, and umpire Gough had a good, long think about it before he gave it out. An excellent decision, as it turns out.
