If I were Joe Root - and I'm not - then I would absolutely send Stuart Broad out next if one of these two gets out. Just to really wind up Pakistan.

Michael Conway: Broad missed the first Test against the Windies and was still man of the series. Crawley missed the first Test against Pakistan and surely will be man of this series...

I've spoken about Crawley having the basics but he has the innovation as well. You feel it won't be long before England look at him for white-ball cricket as well.
Naseem Shah bowls a maiden, which feels like a huge achievement gven the state of the game.
I'm with Ramps - this is a good pitch for batting on.
But then, that's not taking into account the side effects of standing and watching an epic 300-run partnership grow over two days.

From a Pakistan point of view, their batsmen should be looking forward to batting on this pitch. The sun is out, it's a good surface.
We're not starting declaration speculation already, are we? It's only just gone lunch on the second day!
Mind you, these two are accelerating, Zak Crawley chipping just short of long-on after popping Yasir Shah over his shoulder for a couple. Another delicate sweep from the youngster goes rolling away for four. So, so good.

Rory Peverell: What sort of total would Root be happy to put Pakistan in? 500? Or potentially the last few overs of the day if we get there, regardless of the total?

Zak Crawley is a good guy to watch for any youngster learning the game. He does the simple things so well.
A clipped single brings up the 300 partnership.
This is so delightfully daft. When did England last look this at ease in the first innings?

That is some shot. So much authority in the way he played that. A wonderful stroke.
Crunch!
Naseem Shah returns and watches his first ball get driven past him by Zak Crawley for four.
I wondered what the cheers were for!

Fin Tungate: Honestly struggle to think of a more likeable sports team than this England team. I just desperately want all of them to perform and am absolutely chuffed when they do.
Crawley 222, Buttler 124
That was Zak Crawley's first six in Test cricket - and being unbeaten on 200-odd is a great time to hit one, isn't it?

He's hitting with the wind there, he timed it so well for it to carry over the rope.
Well, that's a statement of intent...
Down the pitch comes Zak Crawley and a glorious, lofted drive sails over the rope, and sends the chasing fielder sliding into the advertising boards. Well played!
Shot! Short, on the pads, and it's way too easy for Zak Crawley to sweep Yasir Shah to the boundary for another four.
And Zak Crawley has indeed played well.

I feel for Azhar Ali. Sometimes you feel for a captain. He rotated his four bowlers yesterday, tried them at different ends and they did create some chances. Sometimes you have to doff your cap and just say well played to the opposition.
