Abbas is still getting movement off the surface but they haven't been able to extract that breakthrough.

Buttler whips off the pads for two more down to mid-wicket as England continue to build this first innings lead.

And that is lunch. England have put on 41 runs from 18 overs in the session without the loss of a wicket.

Naseem Shah reels Zak Crawley into a play and a miss and the frustration is etched all over the face of the Pakistani. Not much is going their way.

And just to add salt to the wound, Crawley edges through the gap at backward point as the ball races to the boundary.

Word is reaching me that a player at my club has been run out off a no-ball from the first delivery of the match. So the score would be 1-1 from 0.0 overs. Not only that, he was lbw to the first ball of the match last week, too. Remind me what sort of duck being out to the first ball of the match is? And has it ever happened to anyone in successive games?

Jos Buttler has now overtaken Ben Stokes as England's top run-scorer this summer.

  12. Eng 367-4published at 13:53 British Summer Time 22 August 2020

Mohammad Abbas' lack of luck continues as Jos Buttler edges through the slip cordon. Genuine edge or intentional from Buttler? I'm not sure. But it's four, nevertheless.

Buttler wafts at thin air as Rizwan takes yet another smart grab standing up to the stumps. The Pakistan wicketkeeper has taken a slight knock on the hand from that take. He winces in pain, but is good to carry on.

The fact that Crawley's strike-rate is higher than Buttler's says a lot for both Crawley and Buttler.

This is now England's highest fifth-wicket partnership against Pakistan, beating the record previously held by Eoin Morgan and Paul Collingwood at Trent Bridge in 2010.

  15. Eng 363-4published at 105 overs

A decent first over of the day for Naseem Shah. The 17-year-old seamer bowls just back of a length and finds good carry through to Rizwan behind the stumps.

    Two from the over.

This was that cracking ball from Naseem to dismiss Joe Root yesterday.

Pakistan are going through one of those periods where they hope England make mistakes. The body language isn't there. When you start seeing the fielders shadow bat, you know their minds are elsewhere...

Jos Buttler's hundred came from 189 balls with two sixes and 10 fours. It's his second in Tests and his first as a wicketkeeper, in his 27th Test keeping.

It's the first 100 by an England wicketkeeper since Ben Foakes in Galle 2018, and the first by an England keeper at home since Jonny Bairstow at Lord's 2016.

    Crawley 180, Buttler 106

Mohammad Abbas continues to find a bit of movement off the turf, bowling wicket to wicket as he has one nipping back into Zak Crawley, through the gate and hitting the back pad. But Pakistan still don't look overly threatening.

With Buttler reaching triple figures, the next milestone for England to reach is Crawley's double century.

All Buttler needs now is to iron out a few technical issues with his keeping, and he will be working hard on that. It's never been about his batting. The batting side is in the locker now.
