  1. Pak 23-2published at 9 overs

James Anderson is trying his utmost to lure Babar Azam in with inviting balls outside the off stump. Babar does play at a wider one and pushes towards point for a couple. A great match-up this between two fine players in world cricket.

The task for Pakistan is simple: Do not lost any more wickets in the last 10 minutes.

That penultimate ball was a beauty. A genuine inswinger. It came back nicely.

  3. Pak 20-2published at 8 overs

Jofra Archer sends his first delivery down at 87mph. Fading light, not what you want as a Pakistan batsman.

After a couple of length balls, Archer goes short and Babar has a little flirt at it and is a little fortunate not to have nicked it. The replays show he didn't quite pick it up, momentarily closing his eyes.

Oh, that's a beauty from Archer who finds huge swing in to Azhar and completely squares him up.

A brilliant first over from the England seamer.

I'd be saying to Jofra Archer run in and whack the pitch as hard as you can.

Now then, Jofra Archer is replacing Stuart Broad. Joe Root said at the toss that he wants Archer to bowl short spells, and to bowl fast.

There's just a little bit of movement for Jimmy Anderson.

  7. Pak 18-2published at 7 overs

    Azhar 4, Babar 7

Well, Zak Crawley has royally outclassed the tourists in this Test.

James Anderson has the ball talking, swinging in, swinging away, making Azhar Ali think. One from the over.

  9. Pak 17-2published at 6 overs

Broad has one jagging in to Azhar Ali, the Pakistan captain raises his arms and allows it to go through to Buttler behind the stumps. That wasn't too far from clipping the off stump.

Broad has another one swinging in to Azhar, this time the ball deflecting onto the pads and trickling away by his feet. A good over from Broad, maiden.

This is not looking good for Pakistan.

  11. Pak 17-2published at 5 overs

My word, I knew it would be tough for the Pakistan openers but I thought they would put up a bit more of a fight. But take nothing away from James Anderson, it's been vintage stuff so far.

Looking back at the replays, Dom Sibley did so well take the catch low down.

Babar Azam is off the mark with a clip down to fine leg and then shows his class with a textbook drive down to the long-on boundary. He's a classy operator.

England would have liked nothing more than to get Babar Azam in against the new ball in fading light.

It's a pearler from Jimmy - it was back of a length and well done to Sibley because that was a difficult one to take.

    Abid c Sibley b Anderson 1 (Pak 11-2)

Edged and gone! It's a nightmare start for Pakistan and a dream for England and James Anderson.

Jimmy has the ball seaming away from Abid Ali, who looks to prod forward and edges it to Dom Sibley at slip. A well-taken catch.

Shan Masood has scored 36 runs and been out eight times to James Anderson. He averages 4.5 against him

  16. Pak 11-1published at 4 overs

    Azhar 4, Abid 1

Unconvincing from Azhar Ali as a leading edge sends the ball squirting to point.

But that's better, albeit a bit of a gimme from Stuart Broad, as Azhar is off the mark by clipping a leg-side delivery square of the wicket for four.

Can you just imagine if there was a crowd here? Approaching 19:00 BST, they would no doubt be in good spirits and the noise would be deafening.

This is a big innings for Azhar Ali. Remember he got hit on the finger as well in the field.

  19. Pak 6-1published at 3 overs

Captain Azhar Ali the new man in. Anderson finds some unexpected bounce which hits Azhar awkwardly on the glove.

If ever did he need to play a captain's innings, now is the time. Saying that, he is a man under pressure for his place in the team, let alone the captaincy. He needs a big score.

Shan Masood doesn't have a big stride. He gets stuck on the crease, so you know as soon as he's hit on the full, the ball is going to go on to the stumps.
