England captain Eoin Morgan talking to TMS: "I'm unbelievably excited to get back out. these are uncertain times for people at home, but the way the Test series was played was fantastic. Hopefully the preparation we've done down here holds us in good stead.
"It's an extremely talented squad. Given the 50-over squad has been so settled, there have been a number of guys who have been sat in the wings with little opportunity and this gives them an opportunity to put their hands up and press for opportunities."
On the next four years: "The strategy is still the same. If you look to the next World Cup, we don't actually know where 50-over cricket will be so it's about getting the best of the guys that we can right now.
On the team: "We are trying to strengthen that middle-lower order to give us strength in depth for the T20 World Cups that are upcoming next year and in 2022 now."

Tom: It’s a poor decision to give Bairstow the gloves and responsibility to open the batting. Plenty of stats to show how that impacts performance and yet England are choosing to ignore that despite having Banton and Billings in the team!
On BBC Two on Sunday at 21:00 BST, you'll be able to watch The Edge, the acclaimed documentary about how the England Test team got to number one in the world - and then fell off that perch rather spectacularly.
Here's a taster with ex-team director Andy Flower...
England opener and wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow talking to Sky Sports: "It's really nice to be on the eve of a game. It's been a long time. I've sent a long time at home, which has been nice and refreshing and a good chance to reset.
"The World Cup final was amazing, but there was a journey to get to that. We reached the pinnacle of that journey, but now we're fully aware that we now start a new journey and we have to go up a gear to keep on developing starting with this series."
On maintaining fitness in lockdown: "I managed to do quite a lot of running and some cycling. I just did that and home workouts - there was a group of guys from school who were doing fitness bits to keep each other motivated."
On the training camp: "It's been great. Having some younger, less experienced guys come in, we can learn from them too and the experiences they've had in franchise cricket or at domestic level. The camp has gone really well so far. The bio-bubble is very different to the norm but the guys are fresh and ready to go.
On his ambitions: "My ambition is to get back into the Test match fold. I was disappointed not to be involved, but that's natural. If I wasn't it would be time to say 'thank you very much;. The only way to do that is score runs and keep well, I'll hopefully go back and play two four-day games for Yorkshire before the Pakistan T20 series."

What a contrast this is from July last year. There is so much to appreciate about live international cricket.

What is the thinking behind the additional DRS use in both Test and ODI as an interim measure?
Tom
Hi Tom. With international travel restricted at the moment, all games have two home umpires. The ICC have decided to allow the additional review because some of the umpires being used may not be as experienced at international level as usual.

I was chatting to former Ireland international Niall O’Brien earlier. He reckons Ireland will attack with the bat. Could be fun.
It's Ireland's first ODI at Southampton but they played at the ground only last weekend against the England Lions, posting 296 but losing by seven wickets inside 35 overs. Let's see what they can set England today.
England captain Eoin Morgan: "The pitch looks. The hospitality here has been very good, full credit to them. I'd like to thank Ireland for coming over.
"The preparation has been excellent, the facilities on the Nursery Ground and here on the main ground are brilliant. Hopefully, it all blends in.
"Joe Denly went down in training yesterday so Sam Billings comes in. It presents an opportunity throughout the rest of this summer, there won't be a huge amount of chopping and changing."
Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie is happy with the outcome of the toss. "We were going to have a bat. We have been very well looked after and the weather has been great."
Joe Denly is indeed injured and Sam Billings comes in for England.
Eoin Morgan has won the toss and chosen to bowl first.
Always good to watch this isn't it?

We want to hear from you as always. As they used to say, if you want to write to us, here is our address. But remember to keep it clean please, using the hashtag #bbccricket
Word is that Joe Denly has a back injury but we'll find out when the toss takes place in a couple of moments. Will that pitch be as good as it looks?

Two caps have just been presented in the Ireland huddle. By my reckoning they'll be for 20-year-old Harry Tector and 21-year-old Curtis Campher.
It's glorious along the south coast today and let's hope that 1% chance of rain doesn't come to anything. Should be a good day for the sunshine stats, I can't see any high cloud at all at the moment.
