Absolutely flummoxed with the googly, little bit of turn, beautifully bowled by Rashid, wily old fox he is and another big blow. O'Brien we know can do a lot of damage.

  3. wicket

    O'Brien b Rashid 3 (Ire 44-4)

    Smack through the gate!

It's a googly from Adil Rashid and Kevin O'Brien reads it about as well as I would. Huge gap between bat and pad, the ball scuttles through it and sends the zing bails flying.

James Vince is bowling himself into an ice bath, I think that's the new rules with recovery that if you bowl more than two you have one. Ireland's batting has looked very short of confidence. They seemed to have had a talk to take more time to get in but sadly they have taken too long and allowed England to dominate.

I’ve just popped outside and it’s a long route down from the TMS box into the bowl.

I thought I’d slipped into an alternate universe when I emerged mid-over to see James Vince bowling.

  7. Ire 41-3published at 15 overs

You know James Vince will spend all of the innings break talking about that wicket.

"So, yeah, I just thought, why not try a bouncer? It's always been one of my specialties..."

I've seen this many a time with Vincey, he's not a bad bowler, he does make things happen.

    Bounced out by James Vince...

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 14.2 overs

    Balbirnie c Bairstow b Vince 15 (Ire 39-3)

I take it all back. James Vince should take the new ball from now on.

"Done for pace!" comes an amused voice from the England huddle. It's a back of a length delivery - and I'm being generous by assuming he intended that - and Andy Balbirnie, up on his tiptoes, nudges the ball off the very bottom of the bat and through to Jonny Bairstow.

  11. Postpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

    He's having another over.

  12. Vince's bowling statspublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

James Vince's gentle medium pace has brought him 22 first-class wickets since his debut in 2009 (including a best of 5-41 against Loughborough MCCU), though only two in List A limited-overs cricket, and three in T20.

He's bowled four overs in Tests - all in different games - and conceded a total of 13 runs, including 10 the first time he bowled against Sri Lanka. But he sent down a Test maiden against the same opposition at Chester-le-Street.

With England fielding three wicketkeepers (Bairstow, Billings and Banton), and two non-bowling batsmen (Morgan & Roy) - Vince is legitimately the sixth bowler in this XI.

  13. Ire 38-2published at 14 overs

David Willey has just wandered off the field.

Nice from Andrew Balbirnie, dinking Moeen Ali around here and there, and Ireland are happy to work a couple of runs from the over.

  14. Ire 35-2published at 13 overs

I've just had to google what James Vince bowls.

A trundling bit of right-arm seam, shall we say. I'm presuming this is just to allow a changing of ends for one of the bowlers but either way, I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

The pitch has certainly done a bit for the bowlers. More overcast but it looks like we are going to be ok with the weather. You have to give credit to England, the bowlers have bowled really good lines and lengths.

  19. Ire 32-2published at 12 overs

"That's what we're looking for, Mo-za," says Jonny Bairstow.

No, me either. Andrew Balbirnie gets down low and sends a glorious sweep racing away to the boundary to end the over.
