Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

It's a lovely story for Reece Topley, I had the pleasure of playing with him at Hampshire, he's a lovely guy incredibly unlucky with injuries. He's performed well for Sussex and been rewarded for it.

Curtis Campher was the stand-out batsman for Ireland in their disappointing outing on Thursday.

Here's the story of how a mid-innings conversation led to his Ireland debut.

Big chance for Ireland to show they are capable of posting a total and to show the match will not be over after seven overs.

And a reminder that county cricket is back! Finally!

It has got a bit grey...

More from Eoin Morgan: "The pitch looks good, I think it has come back well, maybe a little bit slower than the other day but we're only guessing at this stage and the wickets down here have been fantastic for us. You had to expect a level of rustiness last game. We've made one change today, Tom Curran misses out with rotation and it's a chance for Reece Topley."

  11. Denly out of seriespublished at 13:39 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

A reminder that Joe Denly has been ruled out of the final two matches with a back injury.

He's been replaced by Lancashire batsman Liam Livingstone.

Ireland bowler Barry McCarthy has also been ruled out of the final two matches, while Boyd Rankin will also miss today's match as he manages a back issue.

Peter Chase and George Dockrell have been added to the Ireland squad.

  12. Postpublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

England skipper Eoin Morgan: "We don't mind batting first or chasing, the pitch having been under covers for the last 45 minutes or so there might be a bit of moisture in the wicket so that might help us up front."

Unlike the Test series, there are ‘dead days’ between matches when players, officials and broadcast media are still not allowed to leave the hotel.

There’s not a lot to do, obviously, but we’ve found ways to keep ourselves busy.

A lot of players and commentators had a round of golf on the on-site course, Henry Moeran and Charles Dagnall had a strum of their guitars in the comms box while my hotel neighbour Michael Carberry did some very impressive artwork on his balcony.

  14. Postpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

Reece Topley is back for England, in place of Tom Curran.

It's been four years since he last pulled on an England shirt and he's had some horrible stress fractures to deal with in that time.

  15. Postpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie: "It looks ok, it's obviously a used wicket so that's the reason we want to bat first, we've obviously got to bat a lot better than we did the other day but if we can put up a competitive total hopefully we can squeeze them in the second innings."

And Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie calls correctly!

Ireland will have a bat first up.

  17. Postpublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

The captains are out in the middle - I'm still not used to there being no commentator stood alongside them - and we're gonna have the toss.

We had a brief shower around midday here but it wasn’t heavy enough to delay the start. There’s an outside chance of a shower later but it should be fine.

We’re using the same pitch as the first ODI so expect spin to play an increasing part.
