    BBC Test Match Special

Surrey should have been welcoming spectators at The Oval for the Bob Willis Trophy match against Middlesex today as one of the pilot sports events for fans to return, but of course yesterday there was the announcement from the PM putting that on hold.

Surrey chief executive Richard Gould tells TMS: "On the 22nd August we have a four-day game against Kent and we are hopeful we will get the go-ahead."

This is how the 21-year-old Ireland number seven - how long will he bat at seven I wonder? - departed for 68 in the penultimate over.

Curtis Campher has been really impressive in these two matches. I joined a Zoom press conference with him yesterday and was talking about how he was pinching himself at times in the first ODI. He seemed a great, level-headed guy too.

    Get him up the order!

Some fine strokeplay again from Curtis Campher, the former South Africa Under-19 international, who qualifies by virtue of an Irish grandmother.

It was a funny end as McBrine was trying to get out of the way of the ball. 213 to win - that's 30 more than the other day but Ireland will need a magic first 15 overs whee they somehow conjure four or five wickets.

    McBrine c Bairstow b Topley 24 (Ire 212-9)

A wicket for Topley with the final ball of the innings, McBrine getting a faint touch to a sharp one that looked quicker than the 81mph that came up on the screen.

  7. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 49.3 overs

Willey rushing in from mid-off for the Topley slower ball, the old farmer's floppy hat falls off as he dives forward but again the ball spills out and a single ensues.

Bairstow is OK - it's just his pride that has been injured there.

  9. Ire 209-8published at 49 overs

One over left then and Reece "Rambo" Topley will bowl it.

  10. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 48.5 overs

Bairstow made a lot of ground to get there, it was backward square leg when the ball descended, but though it touched the tips of the gloves it didn't stay in and Young survives.

That's a terrific innings from Campher. Without it, we would not have a game.

A pat on the back for Campher from McBrine on his way off. Without him in these two matches Ireland really could have been embarrassed.

Campher threw the kitchen sink at that one and he didn't connect in the way he wanted to.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

    Campher c Rashid b Mahmood 68 (Ire 207-8)

The end of a fine innings and it took an extremely good catch to dismiss him, Rashid diving forward to pouch a sliced drive only inches from the turf at Third Man, ending a partnership of 56.

Campher has been outstanding. At last, he's got absolute licence to make merry. I would love it if this pair could muster 225.

Here's how Campher reached his latest half century.

  17. Ire 205-7published at 48 overs

    Campher 67*

Another fifty partnership for the intrepid Ireland lower order, this one has come from 35 balls, but no boundaries this time in the Topley over.

Ireland could do with three more overs like that.

  20. Ire 200-7published at 47 overs

    Campher 66*

He's cutting loose now, a savage pull followed by a sweetly-timed off drive, then an audacious reverse sweep bringing three fours for Campher. Willey had 2-14 from his first six overs but finishes with 2-48 as the Ireland 200 comes up.
