  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 18.1 overs

    Azhar lbw b Woakes 0 (Pak 43-2)

Azhar Ali must have thought he hit it but that was undoubtedly pad before bat, and it's crashing into middle stump about halfway up.

The Pakistan captain departs for a duck, and that's two wickets in not a lot of balls for England.

That was a 'I've hit it' review. It doesn't look like he has hit it.

Gone! Chris Woakes strikes, Azhar Ali out, lbw!

The Pakistan captain sends it upstairs, though...

There is so much to unpack in that text and I do not know where to start.

I once worked at the Great Yorkshire Show where Ryan Sidebottom was star guest as a model on the catwalk for a fashion show. Desperate for a wee I snuck into the dressing rooms to use the toilet in there. Never been more startled than when leaving the cubicle and walking straight into the background of him being interviewed on camera in this tiny dressing room. He was blocking the exit so I had to pretend I was cleaning it until I could make my escape. Anyway, on with your day.

  7. Pak 43-1published at 18 overs

Jofra Archer finds the edge of Shan Masood's bat, squaring him up a touch, but soft hands and a late push forward keeps the ball away from the waiting slip fielders and down to the boundary for four.

There's a bit of seam movement there but there's not enough to suggest that if you don't play with discipline, there's a score to be had for Pakistan.

  9. Pak 39-1published at 17 overs

Hello. Some extravagent late swing for Chris Woakes, the ball just shaping past off stump, and Jos Buttler does incredibly well to tumble on the ball and stop it running away for byes.

Woakes has a reputation of being the nicest man in cricket. He's also my mum's favourite player in this England side, which I think tells you everything you need to know. She's a good judge.

Someone outside the ground is belting out 10CC's Dreadlock Holiday. I think it's coming from a big speaker placed at Old Trafford tram stop. I wanted to call it a ghettoblaster, but that would make me sound old.

  11. Pak 36-1published at 16 overs

Jofra Archer finishes off his over with a tidy bouncer that Azhar Ali tucks himself under, and that'll be a wicket-maiden for the England man.

    Here we go.

Some good bowling and some good batting on show this morning at Old Trafford.

For the first time in these three matches at Emirates Old Trafford, the position of the pitch means we are behind the bowler's arm. It gave the perfect view of that stunning Archer delivery - the arc back into Abid Ali, the journey through the gate, then the timber flying into the air.

    Right. Well. This is happening.

    It's raining.

  19. Pak 36-1published at 15.4 overs

Pakistan captain Azhar Ali has come out to the middle, and Jofra Archer greets him with a delivery that whizzes over the top of the stumps.

That ball to get Abid Ali was superb, the more you look at it. Pitched up, after setting him up with the short ball, movement back in, bails akimbo... lovely jubbly.

The ball jagged back sharply. It was a terrific length. It's exactly where England need to be bowling on a consistent bases.
