We certainly haven't had the scorching weather that was a feature of the second round of Bob Willis Trophy matches last week.

But despite no play at Cardiff, and only a limited amount in the three South group fixtures, some of the form sides have enjoyed a productive day.

Central group leaders Somerset rattled through Warwickshire's batting line-up in just 45.2 overs, but further north it was the batsmen who dominated.

Dawid Malan scored an unbeaten 145 for Yorkshire and there were two tons at Trent Bridge as Ben Slater and Ben Duckett gave Lancashire a tough time in Nottingham.

That is indeed 'it' for the day (see 17:59 entry) at Headingley, with Yorkshire very much in the driving seat in the match-up between the two North group sides with two wins out of two so far.

It has been very much Dawid Malan's day - the England left-hander scoring an unbeaten 145, including a six and 21 fours, and sharing an unbroken stand of 174 with Johnny Tattersall, who will resume on 64.

Earlier, Jonny Bairstow fell for 22 after Yorkshire had been put in by the visitors - a decision which they may now be regretting to some extent.

And that's the end of the one remaining game on day one - although the umpires at Sussex seemed to take quite some time to declare close of play!

A typically-belligerent 57 from Sussex opener Phil Salt (pictured) - most of which came via boundaries - has set the hosts a solid platform against the South Group leaders.

Jamie Porter struck twice for Essex but with only 30 overs played on Saturday, wickets will need to fall quickfire if there is to be a result in this one.

There is still action at Headingley where Matt Critchley pulls one down short in the latest over, and Dawid Malan rocks onto the back foot before cracking it away square for four - 145 not out now for the England man.

That may be it for the day, though, as the umpires decide the light is no longer good enough.

It's an early end to the day at Edgbaston too, thanks to bad light, although there has been plenty of cricket - 12 wickets, even if that's a bit slow by Somerset's standards this summer.

The visitors will resume 41 runs adrift but with eight wickets in hand - after skipper Tom Abell (16no) and James Hildreth (1no off 35 balls) patiently batted out the tricky conditions before play was suspended.

You would fancy the Central Group leaders to establish some sort of first-innings lead from the platform they have set. It was a fine day for Abell (pictured) who took three wickets and passed 4,000 career runs.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby's two wickets were the bright spot for Warwickshire but they will need to find much more if they are to truly trouble the table-toppers.

We are done for the day because of bad light at Trent Bridge where 'home team' Lancashire have had one to forget against 'away team' Notts, for whom Ben Slater and Ben Duckett hit centuries.

They put on 178 for the second wicket before Duckett fell leg-before to seamer Tom Bailey for 116.

Slater followed up his recent 172 against Lancashire during a loan spell for Leicestershire with an unbeaten 111, an innings featuring 15 fours.

There were one or two nicks which didn't quite go to hand and Lancashire very much hope any chances will stick on day two.

The second batting point secured, Dawid Malan goes aerial and adds six over long-off from the leg-spin of Matt Critchley. It's the first maximum of his innings and Johnny Tattersall drives staight for four in the next over, bowled by Alex Hughes.

India's most successful captain and one of the all-time greats had a profound impact on the sport.

The players have been taken off the field for the first time at Edgbaston - well, other than for lunch and tea, of course.

So late in the day, the question of whether they will resume looms as large as the grey clouds in the overcast Birmingham sky.

If not, Somerset will be the happier by far with their work - five bowling points already in the bag and only two wickets lost in a fairly decent reply.

The weather beings an end to proceedings at Grace Road, but at least we managed to get two sessions in on the opening day.

It has been a better day for Durham with David Bedingham and Alex Lees sharing a stand of 159 after the early loss of Sean Dickson and Cameron Steel.

Bedingham fell just four runs short of a century, but Lees remains on 62 and weather-permitting, they have every chance of posting their biggest total of the Bob Willis Trophy, having been dismissed for under 200 three times in four innings.

With just two games currently seeing any action, it's worth a look back at what must be the moment of the day - and it came in a match where only 57 balls were bowled on day one.

Fortunately for Kent bowler Matt Milnes, this was one of them...

Yorkshire 237-4 v Derbyshire

What more could you want when you are 47 not out than a medium-pace full toss on your pads.

That is what Alex Hughes serves up and Johnny Tattersall helps himself to four runs to reach a 122-ball 50.

Harrogate-born Tattersall - wonder how he feels about the spa town's football team reaching the EFL - has been a steady foil for Dawid Malan, who is 115 not out.

Yorkshire are continuing to cruise along at Headingley where Derbyshire's inexperienced attack is striving to find another breakthrough.

Dawid Malan clipped Anuj Dal through mid-wicket for four and now has 114 not out and partner Johnny Tattersall is in sight of a fifty. They have so far added 126 in tandem.

A career landmark for Somerset skipper Tom Abell who also took three wickets to see off the Warwickshire tail earlier today.

He will have had worse days.

This is the only game to have been completely unaffected by rain thus far today - and group leaders Somerset could really steal a march on their rivals.

England's hopes of victory in the second Test against Pakistan are fading after bad weather wipes out the third day at the Ageas Bowl.

There has been very little play at both Hampshire - where visitors Surrey have recovered from 36-5 to 79-5 - and Kent, where less than an hour of action has seen Middlesex close on 22-1.

Rain has delayed Sussex v Essex too, with the hosts on 93-2. Rain is very much the winner in this group today which leaders Essex likely won't mind too much.

Unbeaten group leaders Somerset could well end the first day with a lead at Edgbaston, strolling along steadily at 70-2 after skittling Warwickshire for 121.

Second-placed Worcestershire had plenty of ups and downs at Northants, finishing on 93-5 when rain prematurely called a halt to play, while downpours have meant not a single ball has been bowled between Glamorgan and Gloucestershire.

Nottinghamshire have amassed a fine 268-2 against Lancashire thanks to centuries from Ben Duckett (116) and Ben Slater (111no).

Dawid Malan is currently unbeaten on 109 in one of the two games presently ongoing as Yorkshire have racked up 223-4 in the battle of the group's top two against Derbyshire.

And David Bedingham (96) fell just short of a century as Durham made 176-3 at Leicestershire before rain suspended play, possibly for the day although we still await a decision on that.

With play suspended, closed or at tea in seven of our nine games, this is a decent time to recap today's events thus far.
