In a repeat of the opening round, there were eight positive results and only one draw in last week's Bob Willis Trophy action - what a shame there were no crowds in the grounds to witness some enthralling cricket.

Somerset wrapped things up in just two days against Northants, while Derbyshire, Lancashire and Kent got the job done in three.

Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Essex had to go the full four-day distance, but won't be complaining after making it two wins out of two, while Gloucestershire opened their account bv overcoming Warwickshire with fewer than five overs to spare.

Six teams have still to register their first success - time to put the skates on, chaps, or you can forget about a trip to Lord's next month.

"It's a funny thing about cricket, but what from the sidelines looks like a gentle pantomime, white figures flitting to and fro, is quite different when you arrive in the middle. It's hostile."

So says author Sebastian Faulks in his Wodehouse homage Jeeves and the Wedding Bells.

What are we in for over the next four days? Gentle exercise in the open air, or sheer, naked hostility? Only one way to find out....

Welcome to our coverage of day one of the third round of Bob Willis Trophy games. Play starts at 1100 BST.
