  1. Pears crumblepublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

    Northants v Worcs 84-5

No, not a lunchtime dessert in the pavilion, but an accurate description of what is happening at Northampton right now.

This match looked nicely poised at 71-3 at lunch but two quickfire wickets have most certainly swung the game the way of the hosts.

It's an uncharacteristically poor shot from Brett D'Oliveira, who hoists a Gareth Berg ball high but aimlessly in the air for Ben Curran to catch.

It's been a fine day so far for a Northants side who know they must win their three remaining games to have any chance of reaching this competition's final.

    Durham 127-2 v Leicestershire

    Alex LeesImage source, Rex Features

Opener Alex Lees follows partner David Bedingham to 50 with the lep of a gift from Colin Ackermann, who sends down a rank long hop which the left-hander pulls through mid-wicket for four.

It's taken Lees 103 balls and with a hundred and a half-century already behind him in the BWT, he is showing the kind of form Durham need.

    Patel b Holland 6 (Surrey 18-1 v Hampshire)

Skipper Mark Stoneman gives Surrey a racing start with three fours in Brad Wheal's opening over as play finally begins at Arundel Castle.

But opening partner Ryan Patel goes in the next as he tries to dig out an Ian Holland yorker and the ball spins back into his stumps, dislodging a bail. Unlucky!

for David Bedinghampublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

    Durham 118-2 v Leicestershire

    David BedinghanmImage source, Rex Features

Great stuff by David Bedingham who reaches a 70-ball fifty at Grace Road by lofting spinner Colin Ackermann handsomely over wide long-on for six.

He has looked to be positive right from the start of his innings and Dutrham will be hoping he can now go on and convert this into a really big score.

Alex Lees is on 44 and they now have a century partnership together,

    Haynes b Buck 38 (Worcs 84-4)

Well, it looks unlikely that Worcestershire are going to match the 400-plus first-innings totals they have posted in their two previous Bob Willis Trophy matches.

Jack Haynes had been the mainstay of the Pears' batting at Northampton but he has fallen very early in the afternoon session as Nathan Buck completely removes his off stump.

That's Buck's third wicket of the day.

  7. Weather woespublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

So, a quick update, before play resumes after lunch, on the current situation at the rain-affected matches.

Glamorgan and Gloucestershire took an early lunch at 12:30 BST but it is still raining at Sophia Gardens, so there is no scheduled start time there, as yet.

Kent and Middlesex are also indefinitely delayed, with the latter having amassed 22-1.

There's a planned pitch inspection at 2pm at Hove for Sussex v Essex, where there has been no play so far - but one bright spot in the South Group is at Arundel where Surrey have won the toss and will bat first against Hampshire.

That match is starting as we speak - as are the five games unaffected by the weather so far.

  8. What's differentpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

There are a few areas where the Bob Willis Trophy differs from what we normally see in the County Championship.

    Here are the main ones.

    • Reduction to a minimum of 90 overs in a day’s play
    • Each first innings can last no longer than 120 overs.
    • Follow-on increases from 150 to 200 runs.
    • New ball available after 90 overs rather than 80 overs.
    • Points awarded for a draw increase from five (in the County Championship) to eight to help mitigate against the impact of weather during a shortened competition.
    • All other points scoring remains the same as in the County Championship, such as 16 points for a win with a maximum of five batting and three bowling bonus points in the first-innings.
    • For the final, in the event of a draw, whichever team gains a first-innings lead will be determined the winner when both first innings are completed. In any other circumstance of a draw or tie, the trophy will be shared.
    • The loan system for this shortened season allow counties to loan a player from another county for a minimum of a week.

  11. Selection issues ease for Surreypublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

Hampshire v Surrey - play to start at 1340 BST

    Jason RoyImage source, Rex Features

Surrey have been so badly affected by international calls, injuries and travel issues that last week they add to draft in two short-notice, short-term loanees to fill up their teamsheet against Essex.

Now, though, the clouds are lifting with fast bowler Morne Morkel having finally arrived from South Africa and England batsman Jason Roy also in the team to take on Hampshire.

Roy (pictured) has not played a red-ball game for Surrey since September 2018 and the last time he appeared against Hampshire in the County Championship, in 2017, he made 0 and 1.

Surely it can't go as badly this week at Arundel. With Surrey 0-2 from two games, they very much hope it won't. They have won the toss and will bat first.

  12. Overton shines for Somersetpublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

    Warwickshire 65-5 v Somerset

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset

More great stuff from Somerset's Craig Overton, on what appears to be a decent batting pitch.

Matt Lamb had been looking good until, with the last ball before lunch, he had his bails trimmed by the big fast bowler, who has been quite superb in his two spells for figures of 3-5 from nine overs.

Another victim to Devonian fast bowling was Ian Bell, caught down the leg-side off Lewis Gregory, and the Somerset fielders went into lunch with a spring in their step.

  13. Promising morning for Nottspublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

    Nottinghamshire 107-1 v Lancashire

    Ben SlaterImage source, Rex Features

For a team without a red-ball win since 2018, it has been an encouraging morning session for Notts - who are the away team in this game at Trent Bridge, with Lancashire unable to stage it at Old Trafford, which is being used for international cricket.

Ben Slater has looked in cracking nick for his unbeaten 58, with 11 fours, and partner Ben Duckett has 20 not out from just 23 balls so far.

Haseeb Hameed was the ponly man to go, lbw to George Balderson for 22.

    Lamb b C Overton 22 (Warks 65-5)

This has been Somerset's morning. Indeed, it's been Craig Overton's morning.

Matthew Lamb becomes his third victim of the session with the final ball before lunch.

The delivery is just as pinpoint as it was earlier when Overton removed Sam Hain's bails.

That's 3-5 for Overton from nine overs - with six maidens. He's earned his lunch - and he'll enjoy it.

    Worcestershire 71-3 v Northamptonshire

    Warwickshire 65-5 v Somerset

Hampshire v Surrey - play due to start at 1340 BST

Middlesex 22-1 v Kent - rain stopped play

Sussex v Essex - inspection taking place

  16. Postpublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

    Yorkshire 74-2 v Derbyshire

Two successive sixes apart, it's been a pretty quiet morning for Yorkshire opener Adam Lyth, who has 24 off 77 balls at Headingley.

Partner Dawid Malan has two fours - two more than Lyth - in his 16 not out after coming to the wicket when Jonny Bairstow fell for 22.

Can Derbyshire find another breakthrough before lunch?

  17. rain stops play

    Kent v Middlesex 22-1

Well, they have only been out for 40 minutes at Canterbury but the rain has returned.

Having removed Middlesex opener Max Holden, Kent will perhaps be the happier of the two sides with how that shortened session went.

  18. Postpublished at 12:56 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

    Northants v Worcs 68-3

Worcestershire will want to see out the remaining few minutes until lunch without further losses and Jack Haynes (29no) and Brett D'Oliveira (18no) are doing their best to do just that.

No Ben Sanderson in the Northants squad despite fine figures of 5-28 and 4-61 against Somerset last time out - we're not aware of any injury and his absence seems to be down to squad rotation.

  19. Lees and Bedingham steady shippublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 15 August 2020

    Durham 82-2 v Leicestershire

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

Sean Dickson and Cameron Steel can’t buy a run at the moment; Dickson fell for four today and Steel one.

The latter edged to Hassan Azad from Gavin Griffiths’ fifth ball of the day. He has 21 runs from five innings this season and his confidence is shot.

Dickson has had a difficult start to his Durham career and edged Dieter Klein to the keeper. He’s made 34 runs in five innings since moving from Kent.

But Alex Lees and David Bedingham have restored calm with a partnership of 65 so far - although Bedingham may have been dropped by the keeper on 24 off Tom Taylor.
