  1. Early lunch at Arundelpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Surrey 130-8 v Hampshire - lunch

An early lunch is being taken at Arundel Castle where Surrey managed to add 51 to their overnight 79-5 for the loss of three wickets.

Two of them - Laurie Evans and Gus Atkinson - were taken by Hampshire medium-pacer Ian Holland, who now has figures of 6-39 from 16 overs.

The 'home side' will be hoping for an early resumption this afternoon so they can try and polish off Surrey's tail and begin their first innings.

WICKET and ALL OUTpublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Leach lbw b Muzarabani 5 & Pennington c Vascancelos b Muzarabani 0 (Worcs 219 all out)

What a disastrous few minutes before lunch for Worcestershire whose grub will taste somewhat sour now.

Just a quarter of an hour ago they were on 212-5 with Riki Wessels and Ben Cox looking set.

Now, 15 minutes, five wickets and just seven runs later, they are all out for 219 - and it's Northants with all the momentum heading into the afternoon session.

  3. On-fire Overton wants England recallpublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Warwickshire 121 v Somerset 80-2 - play to start at 13:10 BST

    Craig Overton.Image source, Getty Images

In-form Somerset bowler Craig Overton took his wicket haul for the summer to 14 on day one against Warwickshire - and believes his form merits an England recall.

The 26-year-old - whose most recent of his four England Test appearances came against Australia in the fourth Ashes Test in September 2019 - took 3-17 on the opening day at Edgbaston.

Only Essex's Simon Harmer (20) and Warwickshire's Oliver Hannon-Dalby (16) have more wickets in the Bob Willis Trophy, and Overton said: "The work I did during the winter seems to be paying off.

"I'd like to think I'm sending a message to the England selectors. I've just got to keep taking wickets. That's my job. I've got to keep doing it and keep trying to push my claims and hopefully another chance comes."

  4. wicket

    Barnard c Curran b Zaib 0 (Worcs 218-8)

Well, which clown said a few minutes ago Worcestershire might end up with all five batting points? They will be lucky to get two now.

That's three wickets in fewer than four overs - for just six runs - as the hard work put in by Riki Wessels and Ben Cox in their century partnership is in danger of being wasted.

Ed Barnard tries to 'smash the spinner' but only succeeds in hoofing Saif Zaib towards deep backward leg where Ben Curran takes a cracking catch on the run.

  5. Play to start at Grace Roadpublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Durham 176-3 v Leicestershire

Much better news from Grace Road where day two is about to begin after an early lunch.

Alex Lees will resume on 62 not out for Durham, with Gareth Harte yet to score.

    Glamorgan 20-0 v Gloucestsrshire

    David PayneImage source, PA Media

If a member of the groundstaff had accidentally dropped a couple of fivers at either end of the pitch at Sophia Gardens, it's a fair bet that David Payne, Ryan Higgins and Matt Taylor would have hit them several times.

Just 20 runs and only one boundary conceded by the three Gloucestershire bowlers, in the first 13 overs.

Glamorgan won't care, though, as there is still a 0 in the wickets column. Nick Selman is 10 not out, and Charlie Hemphrey has six.

PS The audio commentary is now with us (see 12:40 entry).

  7. Play imminent at Edgbastonpublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Warks 121 v Somerset 80-2

We are 20 minutes away from a scheduled start in Birmingham, with Central Group leaders Somerset set to trot out at 13:10 BST, resuming on 80-2.

Wow, like buses. A huge, potentially pivotal, couple of minutes at Wantage Road.

Northants have waited all morning to get rid of Riki Wessels and Ben Cox - and now both have fell in the space of four balls.

Wessels fell 12 runs short of his century, fooled by the spin of Saif Zaib as he attempted another big swing before Cox dragged on to his stumps off Blessing Muzarabani in the first ball of the following over.

    Turning point?

We are told we are having issues with the audio commentary stream from the Glamorgan v Gloucestershire game. Apologies for that. Please bear with us - an 'army' of technicians are on the case.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Andersson c&b Klaassen 2 (Middlesex 68-4)

Another caught and bowled for Kent - and while it's not quite as memorable as Matt Milnes' spinning effort on Saturday, Fred Klaassen won't care a jot.

That's a second wicket of the morning for the Netherlands left-armer as he snaffles a very careless chip up from Martin Andersson.

Work for Middlesex to do at Canterbury.

Two bowling points now for Essex as Delray Rawlins attempts to sweep Simon Harmer, top edges, and Alastair Cook claims his second catch of the morning - and they don't come any easier than that one.

What do we reckon to Sir Al's beardie look, by the way? Veering towards Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon, we reckon.

  12. Batting point for Pearspublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Northants v Worcs 204-5

Wonder if Worcestershire know that Central Group leaders Somerset are being frustrated by the rain at the moment - it sure seems like they do...

Riki Wessels and Ben Cox are men on a mission at the moment. They have taken their partnership on to 120 and Northants really need to find a way of breaking this duo.

That's one batting point in the bag for the visitors as they pass 200. You wouldn't bet against them bagging a full five the way this Pears pair are going.

  13. Postpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Glamorgan 15-0 v Gloucestershire

Glamorgan's openers are being pinned down by David Payne and Ryan Higgins in the early overs at Sophia Gardens.

Only one boundary so far, a thick edge to third man off Payne by Charlie Hemphrey, who hasn't had the best of starts to the season, with scores of 7, 20, 16 and 1 in Glamorgan's first two BWT matches.

  14. Surrey crumbling at Arundelpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Surrey 130-8 v Hampshire

A couple of wickets have gone down since we last gave you an update at Arundel, but the players are now off because of rain.

Jamie Smith was caught behind off Tom Scriven for 18, attempting a drive without moving his feet until after the ball had taken the edge, and Ian Holland bagged his sixth victim of the innings, with Gus Atkinson falling lbw.

    Robson c Bell-Drummond b Klaassen 36 (Middlesex 54-3)

Advantage Kent in this important South Group tussle.

It's not Sam Robson's finest shot as he chips Fred Klaassen straight to Daniel Bell-Drummond at mid-wicket. That's spoiled an otherwise decent contribution from the Middlesex opener.

  16. wicket

    Clark c sub b Beard 21 (Sussex 131-5 v Essex)

Aaron Beard angles the ball across Tom Clark again but this time the left-hander doesn't get fully on top of the stroke and substitute fielder Feroze Khushi takes a good low catch at point.

Another leftie, Delray Rawlins, is Clark's replacement.

This has been some stand between Riki Wessels and Ben Cox for the Pears - a century partnership off 127 balls.

Wessels brings up the ton with a routine single.

Worcestershire have posted some big totals this summer - at 84-5 they looked in peril but this stand has turned the game on its head.

    Sussex 131-4 v Essex

    Tom ClarkImage source, Rex Features

Paceman Aaron Beard is into the attack for Essex now and working up a fair head of steam.

Tom Clark collects a streaky boundary as he tries to leave alone but doesn't lift the bat high enough and it deflects away off the face.

His next four, though, is more authoritative, punishing Beard's errant line with a flashing drive backward of point. Clark is now 21 not out, with Aaron Thomason on five.

  20. Under way at Glamorganpublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Glamorgan 0-0 v Glos

We have blast off at Sophia Gardens.

Well, not quite, but we've started anyway - David Payne bowling six dot balls to Glamorgan opener Nick Selman to record an early maiden.
