  2. Yorkshire need 400published at 13:23 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

Yorkshire (166-5) lead Leicestershire (124) by 42 runs

So, to return to our lunchtime explanation of how three other sides can still reach 90 points, lets start with Yorkshire.

In order for them to get there, they will need a full compliment of batting bonus points to go with their three bowling points gained so far.

That means they need to score 400 and then obviously, wrap up the win against Leicestershire.

Lots of work to do for them from 166-5 at present.

  3. Back under waypublished at 13:16 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

Meanwhile - after working out all those remaining permutations, the lunch interval has skipped by.

They are back out there at Canterbury, where England's Zak Crawley is in and looking to help Kent to 181 for victory against Hampshire, as well as elsewhere...

  4. Bell signing-off in stylepublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Glamorgan (203) trail Warwickshire (186 & 129-2) by 112 runs

    Nick Webb
BBC Sport Wales at Sophia Gardens

England batsman Ian Bell is signing-off in style in his 524th and final first-class innings as he put Warwickshire on the front foot against Glamorgan.Bell, 38, received a guard of honour on his way to the middle from the Glamorgan players and umpires - including Welsh official Jeff Evans, also making his last first-class appearance. After two days of grind from the batsmen of both sides, Warwickshire rattled along on the third morning with only Michael Hogan able to keep the run-rate down as Bell (46*) and Sam Hain (41*) scored rapidly in a stand of 76.Glamorgan were also left a bowler light when seamer Lukas Carey went off injured in his sixth over, and could face a testing fourth-innings chase with the lead already on 112.

  6. Can Notts finally end winless streak?published at 13:05 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

Nottinghamshire (384-4) lead Durham (294) by 90 runs

Notts are in a great position to try and end their 26-match winless run in red ball cricket.

At lunch on day three, they lead Durham by 90 runs at 384-4 in their first innings. There are still 28 overs left of it as well.

Notts have dominated with the bat and the Durham fielding has been poor at times with five chances put down so far. Ben Duckett made 150 earlier, while Joe Clarke has 129, having been dropped twice.

His partnership with Tom Moores is 52 runs, the third 50-plus stand Clarke has been involved with. He made 195 with Duckett which is Notts' best for a third wicket against Durham.

Should they push their lead past the 150 mark, Durham will be under real pressure.

Notts have taken four batting points so far and are the top side in the group when it comes to bonus points. It's their ability to see the job through which has been costly though.

They have been in dominant positions in a number of their recent games but not gone on to win.

  7. Essex reach finalpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

So, the reason Essex are definitely there in the Lord's final, even though their points tally could still be matched by the two other group winners, is their four wins from five matches.

Other than Somerset - there's no other team that can pick up as many wins as that.

Most wins is the first tie-breaker if teams are level on points, beyond that, we'll check and get back to you.

But, of course, it may end up not coming down to that at all!

I need a long lie down after trying to work all that out - here's some lunch time scores in the meantime...

  9. Essex qualify for Bob Willis Trophy finalpublished at 12:53 British Summer Time 8 September 2020
    Breaking

After checking and double-checking our calculations following Derbyshire's dismissal for 195 at Aigburth, it means one thing for sure - Essex are in the Bob Willis Trophy final later this month.

Which team joins them, well we'll have to sit and wait as there is potentially a three-way battle still of other counties who could also finish with 90 points from the two other groups.

Wins for Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Worcestershire could all still get them to that magic number.

But a Somerset victory in that tight contest at New Road would end all that talk and put them through to Lord's.

    Still with us?!

  10. Postpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

Well now, those events just before lunch at Aigburth have got our combined minds here working overtime on permutations, so bear with us a sec as there is news to update you on....

  11. 50 runs

50 or Tom Lammonbypublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Worc 200 v Somerset 251 & 90-6

Tom Lammonby reaches his 50 from 134 balls including seven fours and one six.

That'll be lunch at New Road too. The lead is 141.

  12. wicket

    Melton b Lamb 11 (Lancs 219 v Derbyshire 195)

Dustin Melton goes for the big shot and is bowled by Danny Lamb.

    That also brings up lunch.

Still trying to work out if that lack of batting point will cost Derbyshire or whether they've got an outside shot at qualifying.

  13. Postpublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Lancs 219 v Derbyshire 194-9

Derbyshire are six away from that bonus point. The final round of the Bob Willis Trophy is coming right down to the wire.

Dustin Melton's previous best was one not out. He's facing, currently on 11.

Should we keep the BWT format?

Jim McGrath: I love the three groups of six; personally I'd go for a conference system with one year's finishing positions determining the next year's groups.

  15. 6 runs

Postpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

    Lancs 219 v Derbyshire 187-9

With Essex winning, Derbyshire are now desperate to collect a batting bonus point. They need to get to 200 to keep their hopes of a Lord's final alive.

Ten minutes until lunch and number 11 Dustin Melton smashes a maximum.

    Only 13 runs away now.

    Bell-Drummond b Holland 7 (Kent 170 & 8-1 v Hampshire 191 & 159)

Drama on the stroke of lunch at Canterbury.

Daniel Bell-Drummond begins Kent's chase of 181 in convincing fashion with a four and a three off Ian Holland, but a couple of balls later, he is on his way back to the pavilion.

He inside edges a ball back on to his pads that trickles slowly back towards his stumps - he dives in vain to try and stop it toppling the bails, but can't reach it in time!

Kent 8-1 and still needing another 173 when they resume.

  17. Lunch approachingpublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 8 September 2020

So, one result down and plenty of action elsewhere as we approach lunch on this third day.

Stay tuned - we'll show you how things stand in all the matches shortly...

    Somerset's lead is now 136.

Should we keep the BWT format?

Peter Goodwin: Invite the two Minor County finalists. Have two groups of 10. Play each other once. Split into top half and bottom half and play teams within. Two group winners play a final. Bottom half winners play a final.

Devon v Somerset, Berkshire v Hampshire. Staffordshire v Warwickshire, Derbyshire or Notts. I like your thinking Peter!
