Player of the match Lewis Gregory on Sky Sports:

On scoring 40 off 47 balls and taking 3-44: "It was a case of trying to bat as deep as possible, build a partnership with Carsey.

"The ball has nibbled a little all day, with the new ball we thought if we can pitch it up then we can take some wickets. Saqib has been brilliant in the last game and then again today.

On playing for England: "It's a fantastic opportunity for the lads, a few guys are showing what they're capable of and in front of a big crowd here at the Home of Cricket is pretty special."

He's performed. And on his home ground. This will mean so much to him.

  5. 'That continued mindset is really pleasing'published at 19:44 British Summer Time 10 July 2021

England captain Ben Stokes on Sky Sports: "I thought the performance was fantastic. The way we came out and showed that intent with the bat early on, that really set us up for the tricky period in the middle where we lost a few wickets. The really pleasing thing about that is the inexperienced players coming in and still continuing that mindset that we've produced over the last four or five years. We never let them settle, even though they took a cluster of wickets.

"We were clinical with the ball yet again. It just proves that early wickets can push a team back.

"There is still al lot of class in the batting line up. The total was very respectable."

Pakistan have been below par in the first two games so far.

One bright spark today was Hassan Ali. He was superb with the ball, in taking 5-51.

  7. Postpublished at 19:41 British Summer Time 10 July 2021

It is worth remembering that Lewis Gregory, Brydon Carse, Saqib Mahmood and Matt Parkinson added 87 for the last three wickets.

    Those lower-order runs were crucial.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam speaking on Sky Sports: "I give credit to Hassan Ali who bowled outstandingly.

"I think the first 10 overs we didn't utilise, we didn't get a partnership to score a good total and lost early wickets.

"Just like Hassan was outstanding, Shakeel showed his potential. He's batted well in first class in cricket before."

    Lewis Gregory was also impressive.

His 40 changed the momentum of the game, and he set the tone straight away with the wicket of Imam-ul-Haq with his first ball.

England were just impressive all round. The important thing is that Pakistan put England under more pressure today and it was a test to see if this inexperienced side to get through it.

And the good thing for England is they came through every one of those passages of play where it could have folded.

    Saqib Mahmood was another.

He's got the wool over Babar Azam at the moment.

Everything Ben Stokes has done as captain has turned to gold. The messages he would have given the team, to go out and play with freedom, have got through.

The tactical bowling changes and the field changes he's made have been really impressive.

Today was Ben Stokes' 100th ODI too.

Saqib Mahmood found the perfect length consistency in the opening spell. He and Lewis Gregory were backed up by the change bowlers and Pakistan had nowhere to go.
