Robin Johnson: England’s recent selection policy is truly baffling sometimes isn’t it? Why pick players like Duckett, Jacks, Helm etc if you’re not going to give them at least one game. Why was Lawrence picked? - he needed to bat for Essex before the Test series. Briggs…. ??
I wouldn't rule out a run out breaking this partnership - there is disagreement all the time.
Nine runs come from Ben Stokes first over. PredictViz are saying Pakistan will get 271.

A brilliant shot. Pakistan are just raising their tempo now, the running between the wicket and intent has gone up and they're building a bit of pressure on England.
Shot!
Banged in short from Ben Stokes and Babar Azam creams a pull to the mid-wicket fence.
This pitch is a belter.
Who do England call for when they need a wicket? Ben Stokes.
The skipper is on.

It's not the fastest run-rate in the world but Pakistan will be thrilled they've only lost one wicket after 20 overs.
This partnership is worth 55 now. They are helping to build a good platform for an onslaught later in the innings, but they are going to have to get the attack right, or they could end up well short.
Imam-ul-Haq is up to 40, and Babar Azam is on 26.
Everybody in the ground knew Babar Azam was safe there.
On we go.

It was an excellent throw but I think he's pretty safe.
We've got a direct hit at the non-striker's end from Lewis Gregory.
Babar Azam is at least two yards in, but we've gone upstairs...
The Edgbaston crowd are starting to wake up again.

There’s an edition of Connect 4 in the corner of the TV/radio pundit green room. I might get it out if Pakistan don’t pick up the pace a little.
Brydon Carse gets revenge for that boundary, by firing one into the stomach of Babar Azam.
That's got to hurt.

That is vintage Babar Azam, a classy cover drive which has become his trademark.
Babar Azam. Hello!
It's slightly over pitched from Brydon Carse and Babar threads beautifully through cover and mid-off.
Textbook Babar.
Ben Stokes is starting to loosen up.

It's nicely poised here. Pakistan are trying to set a foundation but if England can chip away and take some wickets it will really put them under pressure.
Slightly better from Pakistan, with six runs coming off the over. It finishes with a well-run two.
Six an over from here would get Pakistan 257.

Mark Puttick: The last time England played Pakistan in a men's ODI at Edgbaston was in 2006: Pakistan batted 1st & a Lancastrian bowler named Mahmood (Sajid then, Saqib now) got an opener out.
