    Root 107, Buttler 6

Mohammed Siraj only got one over with the new ball by the way. Ishant Sharma has replaced him.

India have four bowlers who could take the new ball. They have an embarrassment of riches.

Joe Root appears to have composed himself again. He guides another late cut through point for a single.

That is a poor shot - a bit of a nothing shot. He wanted to drive it but ended up stopping. He was a little lucky there.

This new ball is creating opportunities.

Jos Buttler is driving, there is a little bit of extra bounce and the ball loops off the splice of the bat... just over the fielder at extra cover.

    Buttler picks up three.

Another magnificent innings. What a knock from the captain. Under pressure, he delivers again. Take a bow.

It was a really tight single that brought up Joe Root's century. Jos Buttler was very aware of the situation at the non-striker's end but a direct hit might have had England's keeper in trouble.

It was another animated celebration from Root. He hasn't been as prolific in recent years as he'd have hoped, but he has been fantastic in 2021.

Oh! It almost 100 and out though, as he edges past second slip, and picks up four more. Root needs to stay calm here. Compose yourself skip.

    Roooooot!

The England captain stands up again. What another fantastic innings.

It is a 22nd Test century for Joe Root, and a fourth at Lord's.

The whole crowd stands and applauds.

This is absolutely top-class cricket at the moment. I mean top tier. The drama and theatre is fantastic.

There's movement with the new ball, and it causes Joe Root to topple over slightly in his crease and get hit on the pads. It was going down the leg side though.

Root gets a nice, juicy half volley and it looks set to go to the boundary and bring up his 22nd Test century, but Ravindra Jadeja does brilliantly to get around and keep it to three. Root is on 99...

This is a good opportunity for Jos Buttler. The pitch is playing well, he has his captain playing well at the other end...

Time for the new nut. India opt to take it straight away.

Mohammed Siraj is going to continue.

The next hour will go a long way to deciding this Test.

I have to give credit to India's tactics after lunch. Ravindra Jadeja has been very accurate and Mohammed Siraj has been all energy. He's induced a mistake from Jonny Bairstow but it's good bowling. Usually, when you wait for the new ball, you put all eggs and one basket and just wait but India haven't done that.

That lbw shout would have been umpire's call if they sent it upstairs by the way. India would have kept their review if they had gone for it.

Joe Root has quietly moved up to 96...

The theatre and drama has notched up another level here.

Ravindra Jadeja is convinced he's got Jos Buttler out lbw, but after a chat they opt against sending it upstairs.
