Jack: Easily the best session of batting from an England team for a long time. Made the most of the conditions and played beautifully. When in need, send for two Yorkies. Well bagged Rooty and Jonny.

That was a huge session for England. They scored runs rather comfortably, and that would have settled some nerves because England's batting line-up hasn't fired recently.

Re Will, Swanmore (14:06): two Test matches ago, in the first session against New Zealand at Edgbaston. That ended well.

India have to be patient. It is such a lovely day to bat - the pitch has flattened out, the sun is out, and there isn't much movement.

They need to patient with their line and length and make sure they don't leak too many runs. One wicket could bring two or three quite quickly.

Joe Root sees off the remainder of Mohammed Shami's over without any further concern, taking a single off the final ball to ensure he will be facing when we resume this afternoon.

If a famous beer company did morning sessions for England...

This is a bit of a gift for Joe Root. Mohammed Shami is really disappointed with that and so he should be.
