There's one opportunity taken!
It's excellent bowling from Mark Wood. He finds a little bit of shape away, and tempts KL Rahul into playing, and the India opener gets a fine feather through to Jos Buttler.
That's a big breakthrough for England. We saw in the first innings how dogged Rahul can be.

There has been some talk about how Joe Root has been so dominant compared to his England team-mates. I looked at what is the highest percentage of team runs scored by a batsman in a calendar year.
Root has 1,244 of England's 4,339 team runs, including extras, with 4,061 off the bat. His percentage of the team total is 28.7%, 30.6% of just the batsmen, which is the highest of any batsman in Tests. I have put in a five-match minimum in that calendar year.
He is ahead of Don Bradman, who scored 978 of Australia's 3,434 runs - 28.5% - in 1930.

As in the first innings KL Rahul has been the more watchful and restrained of the two India openers. He moves to five with a single into point.
India have made a good start here. England just need to be patient. They should be able to create 10 opportunities on this wicket.

LayEggBeforeWicket: Given India's long tail and out of form middle order, England are one good opening spell from winning the Test.
Rohit Sharma has made an encouraging start. Here's his first boundary of the day to whet the appetite...

A maiden for Mark Wood.
There has been very little threat or anything from the pitch from the Media Centre End so far.

That was a good shout. It hit him on the shin. It must have been very tempting for the umpire to give that. I guess it's a little strange for umpires as most of them will have grown up with giving the batsman the benefit of the doubt.

More of the ball was hitting the stump on that delivery from James Anderson than the one from Mohammed Siraj which got Ollie Robinson out dismissed with yesterday. Had KL Rahul been given out on the field he would have been on his way. These are fine margins.

England had a feeling that wasn't out. About half way through the chat about the review Joe Root closed his eyes and threw his head back. Jos Buttler had his hands on his head. It was worth the risk with the umpire's call.
We're starting to see invariable bounce from this pitch though as the final ball of the over keeps really quite low. If Anderson gets one of those in line with the stumps he's in the game.
Umpire's call it is! About 20% of the ball is clipping leg stump I would say.

I reckon that is worth a go. It wasn't high. It was like the ones from Mohammed Siraj to Ollie Robinson yesterday.
HUGE appeal for lbw against KL Rahul.
Joe Root almost reluctantly reviews. England think this is going to slide down I think.
They are probably hoping it is umpire's call at worse.

India's opening partnership is the one England need to dislodge. KL Rahul has been excellent in this series and will be key again you feel.

Timing! Rohit Sharma looks in ominous form here. Sorry to be the bearer of that bad news.
He picks up his second boundary with a glorious flick to the mid-wicket boundary.
Just a two-over spell for Ollie Robinson. Mark Wood is on to replace him.

Beaten! A tiny bit of wobble for Jimmy Anderson as he shapes one past the forward push of KL Rahul. That had Joe Root hopping up and down at first slip.
Root has been animated in this series. He knows how important this series is. Before it Aggers said the India Tests and the Ashes could define Root's time as captain.
There is a half-hearted appeal and chat at the end of the over as KL Rahul absolutely chokes one down the leg side, but it came off the thigh pad.

I had kippers for breakfast this morning. Can I have one of your mints please, Andy Zaltzman?

Hotel breakfast this morning. One chap manages to block the toaster. You know the kind - the conveyor belt that slides out your lukewarm bread onto metal hotter than the sun. Smoke everywhere.
At what point did hotels decide a conventional toaster is a bad idea? I imagine there's some hustling conveyor-belt-toaster salesman out there who has made a killing and absconded to the Bahamas. Like when Lyle Langley sold the Monorail to Springfield.
