A promising innings has come to an end with a big inswinger. He came in to face the music and did a pretty good job until that point.

Hameed lbw Ishant 9 (Eng 44-3)

    Umpire's call on height!

Michael Gough doesn't get many wrong at all. This is hitting the top part of leg stump and Haseeb Hameed is on his way for nine.

    England are back in trouble.

    There's no bat...

It has hit Hameed just above the knee roll on the front pad.

Michael Gough has given Haseeb Hameed out lbw.

Hameed goes upstairs pretty much straight away.

That initial bit of chaos, when England lost those two quick wickets, has calmed down a bit. It was raucous, this place was rocking. But the sting has been taken out of it. Joe Root and Haseeb Hameed have played nicely.

  6. Eng 43-2published at 15 overs

    Target 272

Haseeb Hameed is looking more comfortable with every passing ball and minute.

He has faced 44 balls and is just a minute or two shy of an hour at the crease.

The Notts man is leaving the ball extremely well. One goes past the stumps, but it is an excellent leave in the end.

Joe Root will refuse to train this week, to force a move to another team before the transfer window closes.

I've seen more than one parent taking their child out of the stands. Good call. If my son was here I wouldn't want him to see this. Scarred for life.

These two have done well to take the heat out of those two ducks. Virat Kohli was extremely animated, with real guttural roars of celebration. India are not quite making the most of the conditions. It's been a while since ball beat bat.

  11. Eng 43-2published at 13 overs

India are happy to let Joe Root taking a single here. After that boundary through square Virat Kohli immediately put someone back on the fence.

Root works a single to him, before Haseeb Hameed flicks fine for a couple.

The initial sting seems to have calmed down slightly.

I'm by no means saying Dom Sibley shouldn't be dropped - or that he should be either - but who would you pick to replace him?

Time for a bit of Mohammed Siraj.

There is some swing for Mohammed Shami so I am quite surprised India have turned to Ravindra Jadeja so soon this afternoon. I think Joe Root and Haseeb Hameed will be delighted with facing spin. So far Joe has looked exactly like he did the first innings.

  16. Eng 38-2published at 12 overs

    Target 272

Haseeb Hameed works Ravindra Jadeja off his pads to more to six. As he gets to the non-striker's end he starts to play with his shirt collar. He's struggling to get it right with his long locks in the way.

He was also opening his eyes wide. He is still acclimatising to conditions. It is dark at Lord's.
