Target 272
Haseeb Hameed gets through the rest of the over via some solid defence and leaving the ball outside off stump.
At what stage should I stop writing the target in these entries? I'm thinking already. It is irrelevant.
The most important figure is that India have a minimum of 54 overs left.

Wow. Cor blimey. It's a good ball by Mohammed Shami, almost an inswinger that gets the edge. He's just angled it on him and hit the outside edge and absolutely flew.
Rohit Shamra is fantastic in the slips so he will be unhappy with himself. He should be gobbling that up at second slip. That might deflate India - they are quite inflated at the moment!
Eng 12-2; Target 272
Haseeb Hameed is living a charmed life here.
He once again edges Mohammed Shami, and it goes at a nice height to Rohit Sharma, but it hits the wrists of the Indian opener and runs away for a couple of runs.
Ten ducks by the openers!?!
Wow. I have no other words...
Andy Zaltzman
Test Match Special statistician
We have a new all-time Test record. Dom Sibley's was the 10th duck by an opener in a calendar year for England - the most by any team.

Root must be up there with Cook as one of England's greatest ever openers by now, right?
Will, Hampshire
Target 272
Jasprit Bumrah then gets one to keep low to Joe Root and the England skipper has to jam down on it. That came right off the bottom of the bat.
It was a good job he hit it or he'd have been plumb.
Phil Tufnell
Former England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
I thought England might have sent Jos Buttler out first to crash a quick 70 or 80 to get us back in the game!
Target 272
Joe Root is up and running with a textbook drive through the covers for four.
The skipper is going to have to do it again.

The first time in 531 Tests that England have lost both openers for nought !! Says it all - England are pathetic.

England have had an awful day. You can sense the adrenaline flowing through India's veins collectively, and they are feeding off the crowd energy too.
Target 272
Haseeb Hameed lets the final two balls of the over go through the keeper.
The England fans in the Lord's crowd are silent. People are rubbing their chin, looking shocked.
Deep Dasgupta
Former India wicketkeeper on BBC Test Match Special
It's amazing how a game can change. Mohammed Shami has been a little off-colour with his line and length in this Test but has momentum after his batting.
Target 272
Oh!
Mohammed Shami gets one to seam and bounce past Haseeb Hameed.
Hameed was playing at that, despite attempting to making it look like he wasn't by withdrawing his bat after it went by.

Worst England opening pair in living memory.

Fast bowlers are never more dangerous than when they've got a few runs...
Target 272
Haseeb Hameed picks up three with a well-timed flick through mid-wicket.
There is plenty of noise from the India fielders.
Andy Zaltzman
Test Match Special statistician
That is the first time ever in a home Test match that both England openers have been out for a duck.

Former England bowler on BBC Test Match Special
England in disarray. How many times have we said this now? It's down to you, Joe Root.
