One ball for Haseeb Hameed to see out...

Before that ball Hameed played a solid defence to Mohammed Siraj and the India quick looped the ball back over the head of the England opener and into the hands of Rishabh Pant.

What an extraordinary contrast from the last day of Test cricket England played.

    Four more!

Guided through the gap between Virat Kohli, at first slip, and Rohit Sharma, at fourth slip, and away to the boundary by Haseeb Hameed.

The 24-year-old might not be too happy with that shot.

If England survive the rest of the day, it will be only the third time in Test history that a team has bowled out the opposition and ended day one in the lead and with both their openers still out there.

    Well played, Rory Burns.

He moves to his 10th Test half-century with a flick to the mid-wicket boundary.

An appeal! They have been few and far between in this innings, but Rory Burns doesn't quite get his moving parts right and ends up getting hit on the pads. It was high though, and Virat Kohli wisely opts against sending it upstairs.

Replays shown it was going two or three centimetres over the stumps.

I've just seen a shot of Overton. He has his whites on and I've no doubt he'll have his pads on.

The Western Terrace are in a full cry version "please don't take me home".

    You can't blame them.

No England fan will want today to end.

India and Mohammed Siraj are unhappy as a little pink ball works its way onto the outfield. They complain to Richard Kettleborough at square leg who just kicks it back into the boundary rope.

Siraj walks down to the Western Terrace and signals 1-0 with his fingers.

Virat Kohli has a word with the umpires at the end of the over.

Get on with the game lads.

A single apiece for Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed.

We haven't really seen the England dressing room during their innings, but I bet it is a very happy place right now.

They have completely bossed this opening day.

Haseeb Hameed composes himself and defends the rest of the over.

This will mean the world to him. After countless broken fingers, a loss of form and subsequently a release from Lancashire, he has found his feet and a new home at Nottinghamshire and is delivering on the biggest stage of them all.

It is easy to forget that after five years in exile, he is still only 24.
