Chris Carter: Choosing between Anderson and Root is like choosing between watching The Matrix or watching Up, or between listening to Iron Maiden and Enya. Which I suppose is why cricket is brilliant...

Slow and steady from India. Robinson has definitely been the biggest threat so far, they'll be hoping he doesn't have many left in this spell.

If you were being hyper-critical, you could say England haven't quite bowled straight enough. India have been able to leave a lot, and have done so well - a huge improvement on their first innings. Even the one Robinson got straight was shown to be missing leg stump.

    Catch? No?

I don't think there's any bat on this but England go up with a big appeal. Haseeb Hameed takes the catch at short leg but it's straight off the pad.

    More testing stuff from Robinson...

So kind of Stuart to praise a players' hair after the stick that Burns and Jadeja have taken during this Test.

Craig Overton's over passes without anything too extravagant, just some solid leaves from India's openers.

Definitely Jimmy Anderson. His hair is beautiful and he is alright at bowling too.

Clearly Jimmy in his prime. Watching Root bat is like a sitting in a jacuzzi all afternoon - very pleasant. Watching Jimmy tie the opposition in knots is like bombing down a water slide - much more exciting.

But anyway, after all that drama, let's get back to the big question in life ...

Ollie Robinson is bowling beautifully here. He's just got that pace and rhythm and is finding a good length.

Well the wicket didn't go his way but that is a wonderful over from Robinson. His last ball beats KL Rahul's outside edge as he gets some more sharp bounce.

I don't think he'll be waiting very long for a wicket, the way he's going.

Missing? You can always tell because of the discussion about the review - KL Rahul thought he was out. The chat would have been 'well, we might as well'. It was a gamble and it has paid off.

  12. Not outpublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 27 August 2021

Well, that shows what I know! It's missing leg stump!

Ollie Robinson can't believe it. It looked a review of desperation - the batter only went for it with a second left.

It looks out. It is brilliant bowling. KL Rahul just lost his balance.

Ollie Robinson has KL Rahul lbw, the umpire gives it but the batter reviews it with one second to go!

It looked very out to me ...

It's not been easy out there for India, but the important thing is they've not lost a wicket yet.

    I don't think we're in for a repeat of 78 all out.

A good point, Woodie, but on day one we made a pact here not to mention 'Anderson' and 'retiring' in the same sentence. I don't think any of us could cope.

The man himself rattles through yet another maiden.

In answer to Duncan L' s question - at the moment it has to be Anderson bowling, but purely because even he has to retire at some point while JR has a good few years left in him.

This is high-class Test cricket. England are bowling well - there is just a little bit there for them.

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma seem to have brought a more disciplined approach to the crease today. They have got to do it for hours and hours.

I haven't seen Ollie Robinson bowl badly yet in Test cricket. He has a repeatable action and he lands it in the same spot most of the time. He hits his length time and time again and probes away.

  20. Ind 14-0published at 8 overs

    Rohit 9, KL Rahul 5

Ollie Robinson is all over KL Rahul at the moment. He's nipping it back in with bounce, and getting some movement through the air. It's been a real testing period for India to negotiate but they've done it well.
