There's a bowling machine at the back of the TMS box, just in case anyone feels the need for a hit.
Vicious from Jasprit Bumrah who gets one to climb into Haseeb Hameed. The England opener is rapped on his right-handed glove, holding the handle. He pulls back like a man who has just unearthed a wasp nest in his compost heap.

Shami is more of a seam bowler but Umesh does swing the ball. His natural length is a little fuller.
Umesh Yadav, gold chain dangling around his neck, is hustling and bustling into the crease. He is given a slight ticking off for just encroaching on the danger area on the pitch.
Rory Burns looking solid in defence.
Jasprit Bumrah will bowl the second over.
Meat and drink for the left-handed Rory Burns who clips one of his legs off Umesh Yadav's first ball. England are up and running.
Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed, both jumperless in short sleeve shirts, stride out with The Oval bathed in early evening sunshine.
Umesh Yadav will open the bowling for India.

Rachel T: Superbly brutal cricket from England! Now heads down and bat, bat, bat and bat some more.
Andy Zaltzman
BBC Test Match Special statistician
Only Kapil Dev has hit a faster half-century for India than Shardul Thakur.
It was certainly wonderfully chaotic and exciting stuff while Shardul Thakur was at the crease.
England will hope for something a little more serene in what remains of the day, you would think.
Michael Vaughan
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special
India were going nowhere in the game but Thakur has given them a glimmer of getting to 200. He was fired up. The celebration for his fifty was hostile. He played some strokes that tell you this pitch is a good one and 191 is well short of par.
Deep Dasgupta
Former India wicketkeeper on BBC Test Match Special
The score is a little more respectable. One of the reasons Thakur is in the XI is because of his batting. It was looking quite miserable but this has made it more entertaining and put something in the bank for India's bowlers.

Bairstow takes a very good catch. What a crazy end all of that was. The amount of swiping going on, you don't see that much in a T20. It was exhausting.
Yadav c Bairstow b Robinson 10
India all out for 191. Another waft of the bat from Umesh Yadav and this time England take the catch. Jonny Bairstow flings out a paw in front of first slip and it sticks in the glove.
A frantic finish to India's innings.

What possessed Bumrah to run I don't know. I think he got carried away watching Thakur.
Bumrah run out (Burns) 0
It's all happening! Craig Overton spills a catch at first slip off Ollie Robinson after a heave from Umesh Yadav and India try to scramble a run. Jasprit Bumrah has not banked on Rory Burns, though and he is well short following a direct hit.

BBC cricket correspondent on Test Match Special
Thakur's tremendous innings comes to an end. Well done Chris Woakes. That was violent but extremely entertaining.
Thakur lbw b Woakes 57 (Ind 190-8)
A good review for Joe Root. Chris Woakes is slightly wide of the crease and strikes Thakur on the back leg.
Shardul Thakur struck on the pad by Chris Woakes. He's given not out by umpire Alex Wharf, but this is close...
