If Rishabh Pant played for England, he'd get pelters.

  3. Ind 139-7published at 54.2 overs

Counter-attacking from Shardul Thakur, who strikes consecutive boundaries off Chris Woakes. First there is a Viv Richards-esque whip through square leg, then a powerful straight drive.

    Valuable runs for India.

What do you do about Mr Pant?

He is so exciting when he gets going but needs to have a think about he is going to get 10 or 15 and then play these shots. At the moment he is looking like a walking wicket.

For me it was an act of cricketing vandalism. Pant was dropped and then threw his wicket away.

More opinions on Rishabh Pant incoming...

  7. Ind 128-7published at 53.6 overs

Umesh Yadav is the new man and is beaten by Craig Overton outside off stump first up. Overton strikes Shardul Thakur on the pad off the final ball of the over and there is a half-hearted appeal, but that was sliding down leg.

Far too often on this tour has Pant got out early trying to counter attack.

Another reckless shot. We were just saying Pant was itchy after tea but he has to go. India are teetering on the brink.

If you could fashion in your mind a typical Rishabh Pant dismissal this is it. The India left-hander skips down the pitch with wanton abandon, and skies a slightly slower delivery from Chris Woakes high into the air.

An easy take for Moeen Ali at mid-off.

Overton is a big man and has flung himself in front of second slip. It was a perfect height for Rory Burns at second. It was a regulation second slip catch.

Pant dropped on 9published at 52.3 overs

Rishabh Pant goes at a ball on a length from Chris Woakes and it draws the egde. Eager beaver Craig Overton, at third slip, dives in front of Rory Burns at second slip and drops it one handed.

Woakes has arms outstretched in front of him, almost pleading with the slip cordon.

The Bradman Doors, so named because these are the ones he walked through for his final Test innings in 1948, when he famously registered a duck. Seems a bit harsh. He got loads of runs, yet he gets these doors for a blob.

A slightly iffy single keeps Rishabh Pant on strike.

Chris Woakes has taken off his cable knit sweater and handed it to the umpire. He goes through a few loosening exercises in the evening sunshine before striding back to his mark. He means business.

Pant can play these match-defining knocks but he hasn't done it in the series so far.

This is why you can't keep your eye off Pant. It is risky but has worked on this occasion. I think he might have had a change of mind after tea.

  18. Ind 126-6published at 51.3 overs

Rishabh Pant, shimmies down the pitch, and with a skip flamboyantly thumps Craig Overton for four through extra cover.

A ball later he shows the maker's name with a stout defensive block.

England's players assemble in a group huddle on the outfield. Moeen Ali, vice skipper for this match, offers a few words.

Craig Overton has ball in hand for the first over after tea.

Ajinkya Rahane offered some stubborn resistance before he departed, thanks to a stunning catch from Moeen Ali.

His wicket just a couple of overs before tea leaves India in a very perilous position going into the final session of the day.
