Having dropped Kohli just before this one, Joe Root responded well to hang on to this low chance to get rid of Ravindra Jadeja - whose promotion up the order to number five didn't quite pay off.

Undoubtedly, the big wicket for England in the afternoon session was that of India skipper Virat Kohli.

He was dropped on 22 by England skipper Joe Root in the slips, played gloriously to 50, before Ollie Robinson put an end to his stay at the crease.

    Thanks, Ffion.

England are in a very strong position at tea on day one. There's one word I keep hearing from the TMS crew regarding England's bowling today: relentless.

The second session was almost the same as the first with India losing three wickets. Again, England have solidified their position and, in fact, have got better. India don't have too many on the board. They need to get to 180 at least. I think the English bowlers have been fantastic, and got most of the India batters out with good deliveries.

Ollie Robinson bowls the final over before tea, it goes for just three and that wraps up another dominant session for England.

England's bowlers have been patient and relentless. They have been miserly during periods where they haven't been taking wickets which increases the pressure even more when wickets start to fall.

  11. Ind 119-6published at 50 overs

Shardul Thakur gets a streaky outside edge for two for his first runs. India in real trouble and England have been ruthless.

What a great catch from Moeen Ali. It dipped on him but he has plucked it out of nowhere. India are in trouble again. The pressure is growing on Ajinkya Rahane. He hasn't got a big score in a while.

There was a moment when it seemed to pop out of Moeen Ali's hand.

    Rahane c Moeen b Overton 14 (Ind 117-6)

What a catch!! Moeen Ali, not always seen in the slips, dives low to his left and takes a stunning grab just centimetres off the ground.

The third umpire takes a pretty long look to check that it's carried, but it has - and Rahane has to go.

These two Indian batsmen look uncertain with the way they are running and calling. It's not the first time it's happened in this innings. They have to be careful because the last thing India want here is a run out.

    Rahane 9, Pant 2

Rishabh Pant gets off the mark from his 15th ball with a two clipped through midwicket.

Neither batter looks particularly solid, but they'll be hugely relieved if they can be not out at tea.

I never knew there were so many different ways to spell Alistair/Alastair/Alisdair/Allystare (that last one is completely new to me).

Just a single off Overton's over that almost ends with a calamitous run out, but the throw misses.

Since that wild swing a couple of overs ago, Rishabh Pant has played some classic Test match leaves outside the off stump. Talk about all or nothing ...
